Foxwoods To Lay Off 700 Workers
http://www.wfsb.com/news/17591415/detail.html#-
MASHANTUCKET, Conn. -- The Mashantucket Pequot Tribal Nation has announced plans to lay off approximately 700 employees at Foxwoods Resort Casino, the world's largest casino.

snip

Spokeswoman Lori Potter said each employee will receive two weeks’ pay for each year of service for up to 26 weeks. She said they will also receive health benefits during that time.

The employees will receive unemployment packages from the state, Potter said.

The layoffs represent a 6 percent reduction in the casino’s workforce, she said.

She said the specific employees haven’t been notified of the layoffs yet. However, she said no specific department is being targeted.

The Department of Labor reported that as of 3 p.m. on Monday, it hadn’t heard reports of the layoffs.

It’s possible that they hadn’t been notified yet due to tribal status.

1. That Cash Cow, I will never play poker there again
I probably will but there is no way they are losing money, they just built an MGM on their property, the place is always packed and has a monopoly along with Mohegan on New England gambling dollars.

I saw a few years back they were the highest grossing casino in the world and the largest, the place made billions in profits and the tax benefits which they deserve since government owes native americans billions and billions of dollars from leasing there land to mining, timber, and oil companies and not giving them the money.

Back to the subject, I saw a penn and teller show on foxwoods and basicly the pequot tribe has only 6 or 7 members and this hippie guy who is part pequot filed the papers with the government and registered the tribe and applied for the land in the 70s so him and his buddies could grow and smoke weed free from the law.

I am sure a company huilt the casino and runs it and all, but I am sure the handful of pequots are makint ridiculous money and Foxwoods laying people off who have little to no prospects of finding work locally pisses me off.
