Jeanne: Roofs are being reported being blown off at St. Lucie County.

Also, it's not confirmed, but someone called in a car falling off a bridge into the intercoastal.

This one sounds bad. The video looks worse than Frances or Charley. Rain coming in sideways on the telly. We're bunkered down in Seminole and so far, we look like we're going to miss the Jeanne bullet. All quiet on the front.

Anyone else have comparative notes?

1. Melbourne resident watching this from afar
My husband and BIL stayed in Brevard County to secure the property while my sister and I evacuated with the children. We're watching this on CNN/Weather Channel from Athens, GA. I don't know why, but this one is getting to me far more than Frances did just a few weeks ago. Perhaps because I'm physically and mentally worn out from the evacuations. I do hope that everyone has taken the necessary precautions and is safe.

2. CNN is getting some good coverage.
I know what you mean about being worn out. We're in Central Florida and our worst hit came from Charley. Cleaned up all the canopy debris from that storm, and haven't had a direct hit since, but the preparations the first three times was intense and we spent far too much money on panic buys.

I understand why so many people on the east coast didn't leave this time around -- it's because they didn't have the money nor energy to evacuate. Long gas lines, hotel rooms -- and I remember the gymnasium I spent the night in for Hurricane David years ago. There's such a constant hum of humanity that you lose all sense of time. Very disorienting.

I think we're going to buy hurricane shutters before next hurricane season.

3. Us too. (m)
Given the twenty year cycle theory and being only five years into the current peak twenty year cycle, I think it's probably a sound investment to install hurricane shutters. (sigh)
