Poll data on Davis Smith...I had not seen this.
"JACKSONVILLE — Jim Davis on Friday dismissed the latest polls showing that his front-runner status in the race for the Democratic nomination for governor has nearly evaporated.

“It’s a Tallahassee poll done by lobbyists,” the Tampa congressman said derisively to reporters after addressing a political forum in a packed Hyatt Regency ballroom.

The poll, of 600 Florida voters, was conducted Aug. 3-7, before Davis began airing millions of dollars worth of television ads. It showed that 21 percent of Democrats would vote for him and 20 percent would vote for his leading opponent in the Sept. 5 Primary, state Sen. Rod Smith of Alachua.

The margin of error was plus or minus 4 percent

Paid for by Florida Business United, an arm of the powerful lobbying group Associated Industries of Florida, the poll also showed that nearly 60 percent of
Democratic voters remain undecided."

2. The St. Pete Times poll over the same period still has Davis with a lead
http://www.sptimes.com/2006/08/12/State/Crist_likely_to_coast.shtml

Jim Davis is opening up a lead in the still unpredictable Democratic gubernatorial primary, while on the Republican side Charlie Crist barely looks like he's in a race, a new St. Petersburg Times poll finds.

Strong home-base support in the Tampa Bay area is giving U.S. Rep. Davis a 35 percent to 21 percent statewide lead over state Sen. Rod Smith. But with 44 percent of the Democrats surveyed undecided, that primary could go either way.

"You really can't call it, but you would much rather be Jim Davis at this point," said pollster Kellyanne Conway, noting that either Democrat could break out in the coming weeks.

3. It was an interactive poll instead of random phone poll
Also it's kind of coencidental that the Associated Industries has also ranked Smith pretty high in their legislative score card. (LINK)
