I'll be going to D.C with my friend who is a Congressional candidate. We would like to shop for campaign outfits for her to wear.

Depends on the outfit. Age 40-45.... sleek...not thin...healthy.

5. I don't know why you'd come here to do it
(we have some of the highest sales taxes in the country, 9%) but I would suggest going to the downtown Hechts, it's a big department store, soon to be rebranded as a Macy's, but they know DC type business wear, and they have very helpful salesfolk (at least in the Men's department, where I tend to buy suits when I'm not at a boutique) go to the one at Metro Center, or, as the poster below suggested, Tyson's.

3. Can't offer personal recommendations, but

about halfway down, there's a section "Still at work?"

Will you have a car? You may have more luck by hitting up Tyson's Corner.

4. Yes, we are driving to D.C.
Staying in DuPont Circle for a meeting there. We thought we would go shopping since we will be there Friday and not leaving until Tuesday or Wednesday.

6. If you want to go out to the suburbs

There is a huge mall out in Tyson's Corner. Two of them, in fact:

Tyson's Corner Center: http://www.shoptysons.com

Tyson's Galleria: http://www.tysonsgalleria.com

But metro does not go to Tyson's corner. If you want to take metro, there is a mall at Pentagon City, in Arlington, VA, which is just across the Potomac from DC.

Fashion Centre at Pentagon City: http://www.simon.com/mall/default.aspx?ID=157

7. Thanks Skinner.
We are looking forward to finding something "different" from the average mid-west boring outfits. Don't get me wrong, we want neat and professional with a hint of uniqueness....To kick things up a notch. O8)
