5. Mostly BS.. THR is Indy's NBC affilliate..so they're not going to say

anything critical of russerts ?'s...the coverage was of Obama walking out of the studios, talking w/ the blond weekend news replacement...then going to the fence surrounding the studio and shaking hands of the crowd that had assembled there...generic coverage really.

3. I live in Texas and I was wondering...

how is it looking for Obama there? We can't seem to get a full view of what the demographics are there much less anything substantial on polling since the polls are all over the map. I took a break from DU over the weekend from pure exhaustion of it, but I have to say, Indiana has me concerned. I've read where Hillary is up 8pts. What and how makes the people of Indiana--which is next to Barack Obama's homestate--a favorite for Hillary? Is this spin or what?

Also, since it's an open primary, does it look like there will be much republican crossover?

4. these are just my impressions

I'm in rural west Indiana in a town that has lost a lot of manufacturing over the years. Today is actually the first day I saw any Clinton signs; they seem to have sprung up over the weekend. Before that it's been mostly Obama when I saw presidential signs at all.

Which leads me to crossover voting - I don't think we'll see very much in our area. For almost all local offices the Republican primary is the de facto election, so a lot of Democrats pick up Republican ballots, and I don't think Republicans will generally be motivated to cross over just to vote in our primary.

Conventional political wisdom is that Obama country is in the northwest, which is tied to Chicago in so many ways. That may be so, but I don't understand why the rest of the state would presumptively go to Hillary. Her biggest support comes from Evan Bayh, and that will have some influence among party regulars, but I don't see a lot of grass-roots interest in her campaign.

The last poll I saw in the Indy Star had Obama up by a few points, less than the margin of error in the poll. It could go either way.

6. a few more observations

One of the Republican candidates for a local office said he's spoken to a lot of people who told him they wanted to vote for him and for Hillary, to which he'd respond by talking about how much more a vote is worth in a local elections ("you're one of thousands, not millions"). When I voted all the people I saw were taking Republican ballots; obviously that's a highly insignificant sample!

I am still tired from the campaign. Were it not for the Dittoheads and Operation Chaos, Obama would have won Indiana. He only "lost" by 1%, 14,000 votes, according to the latest official count.
