Iowans ! Get your Asses up Here ! Help Welcome/Educate the GOP
We NEED you. March on RNC is comprised of 70 different groups.. many churches.
We NEED your voice. CSPAN is goign to cover March on RNC march on Sept 1st. Show the world, American and espeically MN does not support the Republican policies.

The future will belong to those who have passion,
and to those who are willing to make the personal
commitment to make our country better."
Paul Wellstone
1944-2002

Here's a listing of RNC events, marches and protests I know of thus far:

Saturday, Aug 30: Liberty Parade, downtown Minneapolis
LIBERTY PARADE: POLITICS DOESN'T HAVE TO SUCK!
Forget the partisan posturing - let's get together, as Americans of all walks, all dispositions, all shapes, sizes and configurations, and walk, ride, crawl, limp, skip or float down Nicollet Mall.
The central purpose of the Liberty Parade is to create a large scale parade through the heart of Minneapolis that is a CELEBRATION of shared values (liberty, freedom, justice, equality, free speech) rather than a partisan protest.

Sunday, Aug 31: Veterans for Peace Funeral March, 11AM State Capitol, St Paul
Veterans for Peace is holding a funeral march for victims of the Iraq War, starting at 11:00 at the state capitol (That's the rally starting time). They'll march to the Xcel Center, and probably some people will feel moved to risk arrest.

Monday, September 1: March on the RNC to Stop the War, 11AM State Capitol, St Paul
The Coalition to March on the RNC and Stop the War's rally begins at 11:00AM at the state capitol. Their march will step off at 12:00, so as to be back at the state capitol by 3:00. They'll march to the Xcel Center and back. This is the legal, permitted march.

Monday, September 1: SEIU Take Back Labor Day Festival, 11AM Harriet Island, St Paul
The Take Back Labor Day Festival will combine world-class music, cutting-edge activism and family fun to put working Americans’ concerns on the national agenda in a whole new way. The event will take place just across the Mississippi River from the Republican National Convention, which opens on the same day, Sept. 1. Thousands from across the country will join together to promote a pro-worker agenda, including: Healthcare for all, The freedom to join unions, Wages that can support families, Secure retirement

Monday, September 1: Anarchists and Friends Street Blockade, Downtown St Paul
Anarchists and friends will be blockading streets in downtown St. Paul to keep the convention delegates from getting into the Xcel Center. The convention apparently begins at 2:30, though television coverage starts at 7:00 p.m. Therefore, blockades will be going up simultaneously with the legal, permitted march (and with some participation by marchers, when they are done). By prior agreement, the actions will be separated in space OR time, so that the blockaders don't bring police wrath down onto the legal marchers.

Monday, September 1: MN Blue
MN Blue is sponsoring two jumbo-trons with anti-Republican messages stationed somewhere around the convention center.
Bush and Cheney are both scheduled to speak this evening.

Tuesday, Sept 2: Eyes Wide Open & Cost of War Displays, 7AM-1PM, State Capitol, St Paul.
Exhibit of army boots, Eyes Wide Open, will be laid out on the lawn of the state capitol all day long. These are only the boots representing MN veterans, not the whole national exhibit (which takes almost a day simply to set up).

Tuesday, Sept 2: Peace Island Solutions-Driven Conference
Peace Island is sponsoring a two-day solutions-driven conference at Concordia University in St. Paul. Peace Island will convene as a solutions driven conference at Concordia University, St. Paul to promote and celebrate peace, justice, harmony, nonviolence and care of the earth.

7-10,000 people will gather at the state capitol lawn to engage in trainings, educational workshops, community building activities, music, and art in the name of positive social and environmental change.Organized by a local nonprofit led by three motivated young progressives, Ripple Effect will be Substance’s first step in a series of efforts to manifest a united intergenerational front. These events are aimed at embracing the core values of the environmental and social justice movements, with a collective understanding that the solutions to these problems will require us to break down issue and generational barriers. EATURING: MICHAEL FRANTI, ANTI-FLAG, DEAD PREZ, WOOKIEFOOT w/MATISYAHU, I SELF DEVINE, INDIGO, THE SUSTAINABLE LIVING ROADSHOW, WINONA LADUKE (indigenous rights and environmental activist), MEDEA BENJAMIN (co-founder of CODEPINK & Global Exchange) WILL STEGER (polar explorer and global warming activist) and many more to be announced!

This culminates their month-long tour of the state looking into poverty and working conditions. They haven't announced where or when the truth commission will meet; look at their web site. Also, The Poor People's Economic Human Rights Campaign is holding an arts and sporting event.

Wednesday, Sept 3: Peace Island Solutions-Driven Conference Continues
Peace Island is sponsoring a two-day solutions-driven conference at Concordia University in St. Paul. Peace Island will convene as a solutions driven conference at Concordia University, St. Paul to promote and celebrate peace, justice, harmony, nonviolence and care of the earth.

Wednesday, Sept 3: GOP Vice-Presidential candidate will accept nomination

Thursday, Sept 4: Youth Against War and Racism High School Walk-Out, 11AM
YAWR is calling for a walk-out by area high school students at 11AM. They'll converge on the state capitol, and participate in a puppetry festival which will, among other things, arrest Bush and Cheney for war crimes. The Republican National Convention is coming to town Sept. 1-4. We cannot allow business as usual to continue while our city is used to promote the unending occupation of Iraq, the militarization and underfunding of our schools, and attacks on social programs. That's why Youth Against War and Racism is calling for a massive student strike culminating in an antiwar festival and theatrical arrest and mock trial of the war criminals meeting in St. Paul.

Thursday, Sept 4: Anti-War Committee, No Peace for the War Makers! March, 4PM State Capitol, St Paul
4PM, the AWC starts a rally and march to the Xcel from the state capitol. This is billed as a "rowdy march", and I don't think they're asking for a permit. They may try to take down the fence around the Xcel Center. Expect arrests. This is the evening that McCain accepts the nomination. No Peace for the War Makers! March, On Day 4 of the RNC John McCain will be declared the official Republican candidate for the presidency. He has said that the war is the key issue in his campaign. Stand with people from around the country to say NO! to his policies of war. We will rally at the State Capital and then march to the Xcel Center. Organized by the AWC.
