No "bench strength" in Iowa political parties. Recycled 1980's candidates
in both parties. And the one "new face" Chet Culver will see his minions looking in the Jobs section of the DMR ere long. The Powers That Be have been lazy in Iowa and not grooming new prospects.

1. I would agree on the republican side
but I think on the Dem side there are some youngsters just on the verge of stepping up.
Is Conlin a new face? I know Krause and Fiegen may not have a great chance, but both have a good message.
Down in the legislature we have Nate Reichert, Elisha Gayman (out for now, but expect her back), Kirsten Marquard, many more I don't know.

On the repub side, it looks like they are old and recycled and nothing on the bench. Christopher Rants may have been their future (oy vey).
Vander Plaats looks to be the future face of the repubs now.

3. Don't forget creepy Jeff Kaufmann
I expect him to be up and coming in the Republican party. Doesn't he have some minority leadership position now in the house? Do you think he will run for Hahn's senate seat once the old man retires?

5. Roxanne Conlin AKA Taxanne by the DMR ran a lousy campaign
against Terry B. in 1982 and that was why he was governor practically ever since it seems (in spirit if not actually in office).
