Alexander re-election bid OK'd by appeals court

From a report by WBRZ's Marvin McGraw

A state appeals court ruled Monday afternoon that U.S. Congressman Rodney Alexander could run for re-election as a Republican in the upcoming Nov. 2 election. The Louisiana 1st Circuit Court of Appeal also said no new candidates will be allowed to join the race against him.

Alexander originally filed to run for re-election in the 5th Congressional District as a Democrat on Aug. 4. Two days later he filed again as a Republican, just minutes before the deadline came to sign up for the race.

A lawsuit followed, and a last week a Plaquemine judge ruled qualifying for the election should be reopened. But other candidates already in the race disagreed with the decision.

"They want to reopen qualifying because they did not have a viable Democratic candidate," said Democrat Zelma Blakes. "But I am a viable Democratic candidate."

2. La. Law prohibits a candidate from changing party designation.....
....after he has already qualified....therefore Alexander's original qualification as a Democrat should govern.....the election code does not allow for the filing of multiple notices of candidacy for the same office...nor does it provide for the amendments to a notice of candidacy....alexander chose not to comly with this procedure prior to filin' a new notice of candidacy....so he FAILED to qualify in the manner prescribed by LAW....

....yet a puke judge somewhere down the line in all this will allow the law to be broken and let him run regardless....one more giant turd on the shitpile of politics and justice....ahhhh such is LIFE itself. :freak:

5. don't dispare...
Check Zelma's web site and see if you can talk to her. I sent a small check and she called to thank me as soon as she received it. She sounded really good.

Don't dispair. Frankly she sounded a whole lot better than alexander would have been if he didn't switch. "good riddance to bad rubbish"
