Wind seen as answer to scorching fuel prices
http://knox.villagesoup.com/Government/story.cfm?storyID=122170

(July 25): If necessity is the mother of invention, then skyrocketing fuel costs have spawned several local efforts to find alternative energy sources.

Those efforts include a major wind power project for two Penobscot Bay islands, a study of wind power potential on Ragged Mountain to serve Camden and Rockport, and Rockland looking to use its city owned property to help power the community.

The sun is also being eyed for its potential by the Penobscot Bay YMCA, which is considering using solar panels to heat its main swimming pool.

These projects all are under consideration as the cost of oil continues to set records, straining budgets for households, businesses and government.

The Maine Office of Energy Independence's most recent survey found the average statewide cash price of home heating oil at $4.62 per gallon. This is 75 percent more than at the start of the heating season last October when the price was $2.69. The average statewide price was $2.25 in October 2006, $2.56 in October 2005 and $1.78 in October 2004.
