EHRLICH WON’T TAKE RESPONSIBILITY FOR ANYTHING…AGAIN!
EHRLICH WON’T TAKE RESPONSIBILITY FOR ANYTHING…AGAIN!

Club's membership 'not my business,' governor says By Andrew A. Green Sun Staff July 6, 2005 Gov. Robert L. Ehrlich Jr. addressed criticism yesterday of a fund-raiser he hosted at an all-white country club by saying its membership is "not my business," and he complained of a "double standard" because there was no outcry when prominent Democrats held events there.

Speaking on WBAL-AM yesterday morning, Ehrlich, a Republican, said the decision to hold an event at the Elkridge Club on June 20 was made by his campaign staff, not by him. Members of the club told The Sun last week that it has never had a black member in its 127-year history.

Michael Olesker Writes His Take on This:
At 'exclusive' club, Ehrlich goes inexplicably colorblind...

July 5, 2005

FROM Groucho Marx, Gov. Robert L. Ehrlich Jr. could learn half a lesson. Years ago, Groucho told a story about his daughter, who was not allowed into a swimming club because she was Jewish. Groucho sent a letter of complaint to the club.

"My daughter's only half-Jewish," he wrote. "Could she just go in the water up to her waist?"

3. I'm not creative enough.
I need something punchy and edgy -- more than just "Ehrlich Sucks" or "Dump Ehrlich" with a plain background.

9. Try calling your local Dem Rep. Or look online for their website.
Ordered 1 for O'Malley online. Still waiting... ;) Can't remember the link. If I find it, I'll place it here.

4. Ehrlich isn't alone, Steel is just as bad.

From the first article.

Lt. Gov. Michael Steele, the state's first black lieutenant governor,
said today in an interview with The Associated Press that he had not
talked with Ehrlich about the golf tournament that raised $100,000
for the governor's re-election bid and didn't know if it was
appropriate to use the club as a location for a fund-raiser.

"I don't know that much about the club, the membership, nor do I
care, quite frankly, because I don't play golf. It's not an issue with
me," Steele said.

Interesting how discrimination isn't an issue for Steele. He went on Channel 9 morning news to talk about how offend he was by Dean's statement a few months ago.

have all hosted events at Elkridge Country Club. We are going to look like a bunch of hypocrites for criticizing Ehrlich over this one.

6. What's hypocritical about calling Ehrlich on his lame ass responses?
The problem isn't just that he went there and hosted an event. The problem is his response to finding out he held an event at a club that practices discrimination. Apparently he's fine with it in his own words, "not my business". (That phrase should be on bumper stickers by the end of this week) :)

Did Jim Smith, and Rep. Dutch Ruppersberger say stuff like this, "I reject the idea of multiculturalism," Mr. Ehrlich told WBAL host Ron Smith. "Once you get into this multicultural crap, this bunk that some folks are teaching in our college campuses and other places, you run into a problem. With respect to this culture, English is the language"?

Also from the first article Mr Smith handled this bad situation well.
A campaign spokeswoman for a leading Democratic politician, Baltimore County Executive James T. Smith Jr., confirmed yesterday that a supporter hosted a fund-raiser for him at Elkridge on May 4. "Jim Smith has never belonged to a country club in his life. He was not aware of the country club's membership composition, and as the leader of a diverse county, he appreciates that it has been brought to his attention. Clearly he will not have future campaign events hosted at this location," said Rachael Rice, a fund-raising consultant for the Smith campaign.

Ehrlich could have killed this story if he responded like Smith.

If Ruppersberger comes out and says he doesn't care, like Steele's response. I would have a problem with him. Ehrlich and Steele are basically saying that they're fine with discrimination, as long as it's practiced by private entities. Don't you think Democrats should say something about this?
