Brockton roads flunk health test
By Mike Underwood, Enterprise staff writer

BROCKTON — One in 10 city streets are in critical condition, according to a new road health check report.

The city's streets of shame — blighted by potholes, cracks, deformed surfaces and aging underground pipe networks — are in urgent need of life support, the report indicates.

“It is horrible. My street should be done over because it is getting worse. It is so bad that I have had to fix the front end of my car twice and replace other parts,” said Vale Street resident Robert Delaney.

Vale Street is one of the worst in the city, according to engineers from Camp, Dresser and McKee Inc., who conducted a detailed study of the city's road network and infrastructure.

Their report, delivered to city bosses earlier this month, revealed that many of the worst roads are in the northeast of the city while the best are downtown.

The analysis showed that about 10 per cent of roads ranked as poor, very poor, serious or failed on the researchers' “Pavement Condition Index,” or PCI.
