News Alert: FBI Alerts Boston Law Enforcement About Terror Suspects
(1/19/05 5:16 p.m.) Authorities believe that at least one person with terrorist ties has entered the Bay State. There are reports that the individual is on the nation's terror watch list and may have intentions to set off a "dirty bomb." This information has not been confirmed. NECN's Scot Yount has the very latest details available.

2. I understand...
...if they're onto this person, chances are that if something was planned--it's been thwarted.

This terrorist has probably gone deep underground by now--if this story is legit.

Remember, the story hasn't been confirmed. Don't forget the scare in NYC--when they alerted everyone to imminent attacks on financial targets. They shut down the Lincoln tunnel and subways--based on dated, useless info.

Some of the govt's reckless and unreliable antics could be at play here.

I do understand your fear though.

We're thinking of you!

3. I'm not.
I am sitting in a high-rise in Government Center at the moment, diagonally across the street from a Federal Building and City Hall a bit beyond that.

I am reminded of lots of times when the government used the stupid color system to tell everyone "it's time to be scared again", and people would comply.

I would suspect that this is another artificial crisis so * will have something else to rant about at the inauguration.

6. Wouldn't it be just like unpredictable Terrorists to "leak" that they're
headed to Boston, but instead reverse, and head off to D.C.? Why would any Terrorist (except a Repug/Rovian type) choose Boston over D.C. this weekend?

9. Wonder if they are false flagging?
They could be Indonesian, or from Singapore, and be Muslim...or Chinese Muslims...

China gets a shitload of oil from Iran. In fact, they are Iran's BEST customer nowadays. Maybe this is Iran's way of telling weecowboy to back off. Or CHINA's way...

Wish they wouldn't fuck with Massachusetts, though, we're a bunch of friken lefty peaceniks--head for Crawford, instead!

8. OK, some anecdotal shit here, statemates!!!
I was enroute to Logan going south on 93 and was hitting the Zakim bridge at around ten thirty, quarter to eleven this morning. The friken HOV was CLOSED, with CONES, and there were three, four, five cop cars sitting on the roadside, scattered from Med-fid all the way into the tunnel. The first cop car had a white short truck pulled over--sorta like a Tim McVeigh truck, but white. By the time I got through the Callahan, which was a bit backed up (odd for the time of day) I saw another cop car that had an 18 wheeler (articulated lorry for UK readers) pulled over. I go to Logan a lot--I saw more cops than usual. Of course, I don't have the radio on, so what do I know? I don't think they were publicizing this at that point, anyway. But this tells me that someone had the bubble on this way earlier than we were told...

Mitt has gotta be MEGA, MEGA-pissed. I guess he won't have any chance to beg for a cabinet position, seeing as he had to leave the fun in DC and hustle his weasely ass back to Beantown. If there's a bright spot in all this confusion, that's probably it.

19. FBI says reported Boston terror threat was a false alarm
FBI says reported Boston terror threat was a false alarm
- BRIAN CAROVILLANO, Associated Press Writer
Tuesday, January 25, 2005

(01-25) 14:43 PST BOSTON (AP) --

The FBI said Tuesday that the possible terrorist plot reported against Boston by a tipster last week was a false alarm. A law enforcement official in Mexico said that a suspected smuggler made the story up to get back at people who failed to pay him. "There were in fact no terrorist plans or activity under way," an FBI statement said. "Because the criminal investigation is ongoing, no further details can be provided at this time."

Jose Ernesto Beltran Quinones was detained over the weekend in Mexicali, a Mexican border town near San Diego. His son, also named Jose, was detained Monday. According to a law enforcement official there, the two men were involved in smuggling Chinese immigrants across the border and told investigators that smugglers had squabbled over a deal, and that one had anonymously called in the false tip to U.S. authorities as revenge. The source, who asked not to be named, did not say which smuggler had made the call.

The official from the Baja California Attorney General's Office said the men told investigators the claim was nothing more than a tall tale. The two were later released; relatives at their houses told reporters Tuesday that they were not at home. The FBI statement did not say whether Quinones and his son had provided the information that allowed the threat to be ruled out, but the bureau did thank Mexican law enforcement agencies for their help. Quinones himself was one of the people wanted for questioning in the alleged plot. The group also included 13 Chinese immigrants and two Iraqis; authorities later determined that one of the Chinese had been in federal custody for more than two months and had no terrorist connections.

Almost immediately, officials stressed that they doubted the credibility of the terror tip.
