are we "stuck" with Reilly ??
i know almost nothing about Reilly ...

but I do know that it seems like he's already been annointed by the Massachusetts' Democratic Party ... once again, we have a "super insider" being supported and promoted ... he's already amassed a war chest in the millions of dollars ...

it seems like, even in "liberal" Massachusetts, we allow a system that heavily favors the insiders and those with big money ... and, while it may not be the only reason, I don't think voters respond well to what they see as "inside party hacks" ... the insiders have not exactly demonstrated their "we know best how to pick 'em" skills for a very, very long time ...

this is not intended as a knock on Reilly ... but it is a knock on the Party's processes that seem to be pushing him along ...

I'd like to know where Reilly stands on certain "state" issues like the death penalty and the "gay marriage" amendment ... but i think more importantly, and i expect many might think this is irrelevant, I'd like to know where he stands on the war in Iraq, the impact of big corporations on the federal (and state) government, media diversification and election reform ...

some might argue that the "big national issues" really have nothing, or at least very little, to do with being a governor ... but i strongly disagree ... as a voter, i put great emphasis on the uses and abuses of the American military ... i put great emphasis on the fact that our government has been sold to the super-wealthy ... and in assessing any candidate, for any office, if I think they "get it", then I trust their judgment ... it's important for me to know these things not because the governor can set policy in these areas but because it helps me understand how they see the world ...

2. i disagree ...
Edited on Thu Feb-03-05 11:59 AM by welshTerrier2
first of all, i can't imagine why anyone listens to Howie Carr ... and i've never listened to Severin ...

i disagree with the the idea that we should see who the right is most afraid of and most critical of and go with that candidate ... that's exactly what my post was about ...

the most likely targets on right-wing talk radio will always be the "presumed front-runner" ... the point of my post was to suggest that going with the presumed front-runner may not be the best way to select a nominee ...

3. Anything is better than Darth Romney
I have to admit I'm not a fan of Reilly, he seems to lack any charisma and he just doesn't interact well with the public so I have a hard time watching the uninformed voters change from pretty boy to a man who has the personality of a rock. I hope there are more candidates that launch campaigns as the best way to neuter Romney's presidential ambitions is to beat him in his reelection.

Run against him.

Go ahead. Why just complain about the situation. Run for office.

8. watching Patrick with great interest
i noticed there seems to be some conversation going on between Patrick and Clinton (Bill) and Kennedy ...

it has never made any sense to me that there seems to be such a major disconnect between our federal guys and our state guys ... it's always seems like a great wall has been built around the state and that our federal Senators don't seem to get too involved with those running for state offices ...

whether Patrick decides to run or not, I'm sure others will jump into the race ... still, it seems like the deck is very heavily stacked against them ... I noticed Capuano decided not to run ... I wonder whether he was seeing the same "stacked deck, done deal" that I'm concerned about ...

personally speaking, I'd like to see Democrats try to level the playing field ... voters in Massachusetts are very, very turned off by the "insider game" ... the Party should try to lessen the impact of big money and big connections and give all who want to run a fair chance to be heard ... otherwise, we might just be served more of the same ...
