AUBURN (AP) -- The two Democratic candidates for governor schmoozed with party loyalists gathered at hundreds of caucuses Saturday, trying to shake of a bruising week during which both campaigns were dogged by embarrassing tales of personal financial troubles.
Attorney General Thomas Reilly, whose hand-picked running mate state Rep. Marie St. Fleur dropped her bid amid revelations of unpaid taxes and student loans, tried to forge ahead, despite criticism that he failed to conduct a background check of St. Fleur.
His second stop of the day was a Democratic caucus in Auburn, where he gave a brief stump speech and shook hands with the small group of Democrats activists.

The four Democratic candidates for lieutenant governor were also on the hunt for delegates. They include Worcester Mayor Tim Murray, former Brookline selectwoman Deborah Goldberg, Andrea Silbert of Harwich, co-founder of the Center for Women & Enterprise, and Sam Kelley, a Cohasset psychiatrist.
