Anyone have the Ann Arbor News today? (Oct 10)
I saw online they had a story about the Women in Black march yesterday, if anyone got the paper I'd like to know if they ran photos with it. I think they referenced a puppet my daughter made, if there's a photo of it I want to try to get a copy - but I'm not in Ann Arbor, so I'd have to go out of my way to get it.

this is her puppet, but from a Detroit march:

1. What a beautiful puppet!
I wish I could help you - just moved out of Ann Arbor a couple weeks ago to the boonies. But I work in A2, and the Sunday paper will be waiting for me when I get there tomorrow. I hope to see it in there!

4. thanks for your input
"As a young woman, I attended Witwatersrand University in Johannesburg, South Africa, which was then not segregated. But I witnessed the weight of apartheid everywhere around me. And so, with my fellow students we marched against its extension into higher education. This was the late 50’s, the dawn of the civil rights marches in America. As history records, our efforts in South Africa failed and the Higher Education Apartheid Act was passed. Apartheid tightened its ugly grip, the Sharpsville riots followed, and a short while later Nelson Mandela was arrested and sent to Robin Island.

I learned something then, and I believe it still. There is a value in taking a stand whether or not anyone may be noticing and whether or not it is a risky thing to do. And if even those who are in danger can raise their lonely voices, isn’t more required of all of us, in this land where liberty had her birth?"

6. Thanks for getting out the vote.
I'll be monitoring polls on election day. :)

Since I helped organize a puppet making workshop for my high school, I don't view it as wasting time. I view it as passing on art as a means of activism to the next generation. It's a good thing. (especially as I work at an art school.)

Door-to-door canvassing, poll monitoring, voter registration, websites, charts, LTTE, donations, guerilla theatre, house parties, I'm all over it this year.

The puppets cannot stay home, though. FREE THE PUPPETS!!!
