Gov. Granholm to receive Swedish Polar Star award
Glad to know some people in the world know how to measure accomplishment , cause lots of people in Michigan don't seem to.. Go. Jenny. Lots of idiots in Michigan can't connect the dots.. Seems most in Sweden do..

Michigan Gov. Jennifer Granholm will receive one of Sweden's highest awards Thursday when King Carl XVI Gustaf presents her with Sweden's Insignia of First Commander, Order of the Polar Star.

The award is in recognition of the work Granholm has done to encourage relationships between Michigan and Sweden to promote clean energy.

After Granholm made an August 2007 trade trip to Sweden, the king visited Michigan in 2008 to preside over the groundbreaking at Flint's Center of Energy Excellence. The center is a collaboration between Swedish Biogas International, Kettering University and the city of Flint to produce clean energy from waste removed from the city's wastewater treatment plant.

Granholm and the king also co-hosted a climate change conference in Dearborn during that visit.

The king will present Granholm with the award Thursday afternoon at the Royal Palace in Stockholm. Those attending will include U.S. Ambassador to Sweden Matthew Barzun, the Swedish consul general for Michigan, Lennart Johansson, and Michigan Economic Development Corp. President and CEO Greg Main.

2. People are sheep.
They bleat out what the press peddles.. The industrial decline started under Engler. Brookings says under Engler's last two years, over 100,000 industrial jobs were lost to Michigan... It just was not yet as obvious because the country was still under the dot com bubble.

3. I think it was even more

I believe employment peaked in mid-2000 and we've been losing jobs since that point. I've heard it more like 200,000 jobs lost during Engler's last term. People also ignore that unemployment was about 7% when Granholm took office, which is where it stayed until the second Bush recession. Unfortunately, the mess made by Engler and Bush will still take years to clean up. It sucks for Granholm because her plan to diversify our economy is great but is overshadowed by the losses in the auto industry. I think we had the right person as governor at the right time.

4. I'm with you on that
I think she's done an amazing job, especially given what she was given to work with and the "just say no" legislature she was saddled with.

5. I believe history will be kind to Gov. Granholm...
or as I jokingly call her, Guv. Pretty Eyes. My only problem with her is that she was not good at tooting her own horn, and she would too often play rope-a-dope with the press. The BS media in this state spewed constant blame for things on her, and the uninformed sheeple lapped it up. Sad, isn't it?
