It turns out that the rumors of U.S. Rep. John Dingell’s political demise may have been exaggerated
from the Detroit Free Press:

It turns out that the rumors of U.S. Rep. John Dingell’s political demise may have been exaggerated.

Word of a recent poll that showed the U.S. House’s longest-serving member ever trailing a Republican newcomer made national headlines. But according to a Free Press-WXYZ TV (Channel 7) poll, the Dearborn Democrat enjoys a comfortable 53%-36% lead over Ann Arbor cardiologist Rob Steele.

That may be a far cry from the 70%-to-25% margin he held over Republican John Lynch in the 2008 election but it’s also a fairly comfortable lead, given that this is expected to be a strong year for Republican congressional candidates.

EPIC-MRA of Lansing surveyed 400 likely voters in Michigan’s 15th congressional district – which stretches form Dearborn through Ann Arbor and south to the Ohio line – last Saturday through Tuesday. It has a margin of error of plus or minus 4.9 percentage points.
