Hearing on Fri of a very Disturbing Bill that will take away more of our Civil LIberties
Edited on Thu Mar-19-09 11:53 PM by annm4peace
Very Disturbing News coming not from a MN Republican Rep.. but a DFL, and from St Paul..

Tomorrow the House is going to have a hearing on bill HF 1449:
Bureau of Criminal Apprehension's "agency bill"

This would let a lot of stuff be held permanently secret by the police agencies, and they would be able to copy most anything to the feds and corporate pals (regardless of whether it was even accurate).

So at a hearing starting @ 8:30 Friday morning, the cmte chaired by John Lesch (D-St Paul), The Minnesota House Crime Victims/Criminal Records Division is hearing this bill. It has not been heard yet in the Senate. (In his day job, Lesch works @ the St. Paul City Attorney's office!)

Here's the official House status page

Senate status page - over there it is SF 1103

Full text of the bill is also @ http://tinyurl.com/mncriminal - it is the same in House and Senate versions.

The bill is listed as last on the agenda of the meeting. That means essentially nothing, unfortunately. Lesch could have the bill up at any time after 8:30 (they don't have to go in order) - and he would be sort of obliged to let anyone who shows up testify on it, since it is kind of a big deal.
