Isn't Schweitzer running for reelection in 2008?
As an out-of-stater, I've heard a lot of buzz about Governor Schweitzer possibly running for president in 2008. Not to be a drag, but doesn't Montana's gubernatorial races coincide with presidential election years?

So won't Schweitzer be running for his second term as Governor in '08? I mean, he hasn't even been in office for a year!

I could see him running for president in 2016 (or 2012 if, deity forbid, some right-winger weasles his way in to succeed Bush in '08).....but isn't 2008 a little too early, even for a charismatic governor?

1. Yes. You've got the schedule right.
in 2012, he'll be term-limited out, and there will be a Democratic President running for reelection.

2. Maybe he could run for Senate
after he is term limited out of governor and then run for president on a non-Senate election year.

who's gonna beat Conrad Burns in 2006

If there is a Dem President running for reelection in 2012, Schweitzer might look good as a veep pick.

5. You think Tester can take Burns?
I think he can, but I've been wrong before. I'm such a biased Dem that it's tough for me to give an honest assessment. Also, how does Morrison and Tester stack up?

6. Yes,
I think Burns is vulnerable, and I think either of them will be able to give him a race... I give the nod to Tester however, his looks, resume, and experience make him the more formidable candidate, imho. A campaign benefit concert by Pearl Jam in Missoula August 29 won't hurt.

So far, Monica Lindeen is the only Democrat challenging Denny Rehberg.

7. Thanks for the links
Man I hope so, Conrad Burns is a frickin' rat.

So where are you from? I'm probably going to move back to Cut Bank in December. I'm planning on running for State Senate.
