Just spent the weekend in Nebraska
We go to Arnold every year for their blues festival. (Which, BTW, is a GREAT event!) Anyway, being the political junkie that I am, I buy newspapers when I travel and immediately turn to the LTTEs and the editorial page to gauge the local political climate. And my oh my how attitudes have changed in your state in a year's time! Last year, the LTTEs were pro-war and pro-Bush. This year, there were letters about national health care in the Omaha paper (they want it!) and I saw nothing in any paper about Bush. I did see one letter opposing the war.

One of the local repukes in Arnold greeted me with "Let's not talk politics this weekend, okay?" I told her I wouldn't want to discuss this president either if I had voted for him. Then she ignored me the rest of the weekend. LOL

I watched maybe an hour of TV all weekend and must have seen 6 anti Nelson commercials. (And they were nasty.) Isn't it kind of early? Is that guy running against him in a primary or is he just starting the swift boating early?

I also read several articles about a guy on the board of regents who was impeached. Is he a Democrat or a Republican? Was this a witch hunt or a healthy cleansing? I couldn't really tell from what I read.

I went to Creighton and have always had a soft place in my heart for Nebraska. Glad to see the political climate seems to be changing from DEEP red. Oh and please don't take that comment the wrong way. I live in Kansas and you can't get much more red than here. LOL

Ricketts is the Republican contender. His daddy owns Ameritrade. He has spent close to 4 million of his own $ so far to beat Nelson. He has had most of his staff replaced in the last week. He must be behind in his own polls.

2. Thanks for stopping by.
I live in Omaha and the climate does seem to be changing a bit. Too bad it has taken six years, but it seems as if people are starting to understand that the current Administration and government are not everything they're cracked up to be. The more locals I talk with the more people seem to be leaning towards the middle rather the far right. I suppose this happens either way depending on the party in office, but regardless the reasoning it is nice to see and I don't have to worry about getting lynched if I put up a Democrat sign in my front yard.

I've also noticed more Democratic bumper stickers!

Ricketts is a real treat. I don't see how he can win, but then again money buys a lot of things and public office is one of them.

5. I didn't think they had anything in Arnold
I think I see more Nelson ads that Ricketts ads. This one is going to get extremely ugly before it's all said and done, but I think Nelson is fairly safe. I think (unfortunately) most Nebraskans don't like Bush, but still support republicans because "democrats are worse"

Anyway, glad you had a fun time.
