Ricketts loses appeal of home valuation

OMAHA — Douglas County officials on Friday rejected Pete Ricketts’ bid to lower his home valuation.

Ricketts, the GOP nominee for U.S. Senate, and his wife wanted to keep the valuation at $900,000. The county wanted to raise the valuation to $1.2 million — the price Ricketts paid for the 5,200-square-foot home in 1999 ...

Let me get this straight: He has $5 million dollars to buy a primary so he can get his ass kicked by Ben Nelson, but he doesn't have a few hundred bucks to help give kids a good education (and on a selfish note, to avoid bad press)? Why are we surprised? This is the same kind of "penny-wise pound-foolish" thinking we see from Republicans in Congress all the time. Of course he has every right to protest his valuation, but I have every right to slam him and point out how this makes him an extremely poor choice to represent us in Congress.
