Also, Anne Wolfe.
Care to chime in? I have met her and find her whip-smart and clueful.

1. I met her last night
She was at a fundraiser for WesPAC, Wes Clark's national security PAC. She had been a Clark supporter and still loves the General.

She was indeed very smart and a "real person" - that's how she impressed me, as a down to earth straight shooter. I liked her very much. We hope to start helping her raise money on wesclarkdemocrats.com very soon and plan a fundraiser in the Princeton area.

She described her district. It sounds quite gerrymandered.

4. whip-smart, that's true
I was asked to hold a house party fund raiser for Anne as part of NJ for Democracy's Congressional House Party day. I absolutely adore her.

She knows so much about Warren county, which is in the opposite end of the district from Bergen, where she lives with her family in Mahwaw. I'd be willing to say she knows more about Northwest New Jersey than Scott Garrett, who lives here.

Anyway, she organized a march from Lexington to Concord, MA for John Kerry's Vietnam Veterans Against the War in 1970. She claims Kerry as her inspiration for being an activist and a politician. She has held national positions with the League of Women Voters and is a commissioner of utilities in Bergen County. She is so qualified to represent us in Washington it's not funny. And she's "PROUD" to be a Democrat.

Please check out her web site and contribute! She needs money to get the visibility that Emily's List requires for their endorsement.

5. Dem likes chances in House race
Dem likes chances in House race
GOP incumbent Scott Garrett faces Bergen County-based opponent.

Sunday, June 13, 2004

By KATHERINE BLOK
The Express-Times

After winning the Democratic nomination for Congress in a landslide, Anne Wolfe has her sight set on the big prize: defeating incumbent Republican U.S. Rep. Scott Garrett in November.

Wolfe, the former chairwoman of the Bergen County Improvement Authority, won 83 percent of the primary against Sussex County businessman Frank Fracasso.

Garrett emerged the winner of a five-way Republican primary in 2002 and then took 60 percent of the general election vote in what some have called an upset over Democrat Anne Sumers.

Though Democratic Party officials from Washington and Trenton once thought Garrett was unbeatable, poll date shows that he is vulnerable, Wolfe said.

"The world is a different place than it was two years ago," Wolfe said. "Anne's race was an open seat. It also was not a presidential election. The war in Afghanistan was very different from the war in Iraq now. The economy is in a different place, drastically so, and people's concerns are in a different place."

While Sumers spent money on television and campaign advertisements, Wolfe said she will be "on the ground" and going door-to-door throughout the summer.

"We learned from all of the races two years ago, a lot of direct mail didn't address (voters') issues, it addressed what the people doing the direct mail thought the issues were," Wolfe said. "We're going to ask what people need. We'll be doing that this summer, then going back to people and responding to their issues."

So far, voters have highlighted property taxes, the cost of public education, the cost of health care, social security, drug costs for seniors and veterans benefits, Wolfe said.

6. Wolfe: Building Momentum
Dear Wolfe Pack,

It's getting to be that time when people start paying attention
to Congressional races as well as the race for the White House,
especially with the Democratic National Convention right around
the corner. That means we have to knock on more doors, make more
phone calls and when people hear the word Congress, Anne Wolfe
has to be the first name that comes to mind.

The campaign recently received some great news! The Democratic
Congressional Campaign Committee (DCCC), a national organization
whose sole mission is to get Democrats elected to the House, has
begun to take an interest in Scott Garrett's vulnerability and
will begin focusing their efforts on this race in the very near
future.

Read about Anne's chances:

Volunteers:

The Wolfe Campaign will be targeting the Democrats in Paramus,
Demarest, and Hackettstown in an effort dubbed "5000 in 5" from
Wednesday, July 21 to Sunday, July 25. In the course of those 5
days we are going to reach out to 5000 members of the party. We
are asking volunteers to take a list of 100 homes, knock on their
doors, and deliver some literature at any time you want during
those few days. If you're interested in Paramus or Demarest,
stop by campaign headquarters at 470 Route 17 South in Ridgewood
any time after 12PM on Monday the 19th to pick your information.
If you live closer to Hackettstown, e-mail the campaign and we'll
get you set up with our people out there.

Register as a Volunteer at:

Events:

* This Sunday, the 18th, there will be a rally for Anne at the
Pascack Brook County Park in Westwood at 2PM where everyone can
meet the candidate. The rally is open to the general public.
Immediately following, the Wolfe campaign will be having a BBQ
with hamburgers, hotdogs, and chicken until 5PM. We're just
asking that anyone who stays around for the BBQ contribute $25
per person or $75 for families of 3 or more. The park has a
pond, tennis courts, a playground and plenty of open space.

* On Wednesday August 11 we are holding an "End Your Day the
Right Way" happy hour fundraiser at Bourbon Street in Hillsdale.
If you'd like to be on the Host Committee, which means in
exchange for a contribution you become an official host on all
our advertising and promise to recruit more attendees, please
contact the campaign.

* If you know of an event that Anne might be interested in
attending to meet people, don't hesitate to e-mail the campaign!

Scott Garrett Fun Fact:

With his first vote in Congress in January of 2003, Garrett voted
to NOT extend federal temporary unemployment benefits an
additional 13 weeks for employees who had been out of work and
had exhausted their 26 weeks of state assistance. 416 members of
Congress voted for this bill, Garrett and 3 others voted against.

If you're thinking about whether or not you can make a financial
contribution or spare some time to volunteer, remember these two
things:

1 - Any donation or amount of time helping the campaign is
greatly appreciated.
2 - Campaigns are called races for a good reason. There is a
finish line, November 2nd. There will be a winner and a loser.
Once the polls close, we can't go back and do more for the
campaign. We want to make the other guys wake up on November 3rd
thinking "Maybe we could have done a little bit more and worked a
little harder."

If everyone does their part we can come together in celebration
on November 2nd and rejoice that we have achieved better
representation in our government!

Thank you,

Christine Mosier

Anne was just interviewed by Randi Rhodes on Air America which is

hope so.

Don't forget Sunday is the rescheduled picnic for Anne. Go to her
website www.wolfe2004congress.com to get all the information. Come out and support her candidacy! Scott Garrett can be defeated and we can do it if we work together.

9. Dems for Congress speak at grassroots meeting
Dems for Congress speak at grassroots meeting
Thursday, August 5, 2004
LYNN OLANOFF
Herald Staff Writer

NEWTON — Democratic congressional candidates Jim Buell and Anne Wolfe addressed a friendly crowd Wednesday night a meeting of a local Democratic grassroots organization.

About 15 Democrats signed campaign volunteer lists, offered their support, and even some advice to Democrats who face uphill battles in the two heavily-Republican districts that include all of Sussex County. The group met at the Unitarian Universalist Fellowship of Sussex County.

Wolfe, 51, who is challenging Rep. Scott Garrett, R-5, said it is important to introduce herself to Democrats, who in this case are local members of Democracy For America, who supported Howard Dean for president.

“It’s for energizing Democrats — and independents — and welcome them to a new way of organizing themselves in a campaign,” she said.
Wolfe, of Mahwah, said she is a moderate alternative to Garrett, whom she called an “extremist” who was only concerned with tax cuts and cutting government services.

Wolfe said government has a role to play in people’s lives, which she believes the younger families coming into Sussex and Warren counties will recognize.

Wolfe supporter puts her passion in the right place

Wolfe Headquarters, Ridgewood, NJ – People feel passionate about the candidates they support - none more so than Tenafly resident, Carol Hoernlein of Tenafly. This Saturday, October 2, she is throwing a fund raiser for Anne Wolfe, Democratic candidate for Congress for the NJ Fifth Congressional District, and has rented the Alpine Pavilion at the Alpine Boat Basin in Alpine to do it.

Hoernlein is a civil engineer with a specialty in water resources. She has real concerns about the state of the environment in northern New Jersey, considering the 5th District’s current representative, Scott Garrett, got a grade of 10% on the League of Conservation Voters’ scorecard for the 108th Congress. “He’s so anti-environment,” said Hoernlein, “that it’s impossible to see how he can be our representative. He’s opposed to any kind of strong environmental protection. We’re talking about peoples’ health here as much as about our natural resources,” she added.

“October 2 will be a month to the day until Election Day,” said Hoernlein. “I already know what kind of congresswoman Anne will make. I want everyone else to have a chance to know what she’s like too, because when they hear her, I know they’ll want to vote for her. Anne was a special enforcement administrator at the EPA. She knows how to be tough with those who break the environmental protection laws that protect the people of the Fifth District.”

“We’ve planned a real fun afternoon,” said Hoernlein, “with lots of food and entertainment. I can’t think of a better way to spend a Saturday afternoon in the fall; steak sandwiches, corn on the cob, salads, desserts and politics. What could be more traditionally American? Plus Peter Karp is going to perform with the Road Show Band. We’ll be down here from 2PM to 6PM, so I’m inviting everyone to come down.”

The minimum suggested pre-reservation price for the event is $40 and $50 at the door. For information, call Carol Hoernleing at 201-227-1468 or email her at carol@siteandstorm.com.

Anne Wolfe is a moderate Democrat who has based her campaign on a commitment to protecting the environment, is fiscally conservative, believes in a woman’s right to choose, quality public education, better access to healthcare and smart growth.

FYI, Dem. lawn signs have been stolen from private property all over the district. I'd advise the posting of a surveillance camera if you've got one handy. The Repukes are stooping to an all-time low; Garrett supporters even lower.

17. Wolfe Campaign Responds to Garrett's Attack Ads
Reminder to Scott Garrett: You are the company you keep

Wolfe Headquarters, Ridgewood – “Telling outright lies in political commercials ought to be illegal,” said Christine Mosier, campaign manager for Anne Wolfe, Democrat, who is running for Congress in the New Jersey 5th District. “Trying to influence voters with those lies is shameful. The Garrett campaign is currently running commercials on cable TV accusing Anne of giving jobs to relatives, and implying that Anne mismanaged Bergen Regional Medical Center (BRMC) when she was head of the Bergen County Improvement Authority (BCIA) and then took money from associates there.”

“It would be a joke if it weren’t so absurd,” said Wolfe. “I have no relatives who live in New Jersey unless you count my husband, John. Maybe he’s thinking of my dog, Isabella, who is a volunteer therapy dog at BRMC.
