Does anyone have link to Morris County voting machines...
being certified in a garage in West New York or Union City? I am trying to assemble materials to write a letter about DRE machines to the local paper re their inherent lack of security.

I saw this post during the run-up to the 2004 elections I think.

1. Keep in mind...
it's not just about the individual counties and their respective choices...

but about which machines are actually certified by the AG

To date, only one type of machine, Sequoia, has been certified by the AG's office to be HAVA compliant

In Passaic County, the very progressive and passionate Democratic chair of the Board of Election Supervisors does not like Sequoia, but has told me her hands are quite tied by the fact that there is essentially a monopoly in Trenton based on the certification doled out by the AG's office.

This is why Corzine's pick to replace Harvey is so important. Please follow that issue closely.

2. there are 7 DREs certified for use in NJ
ES&S_Ivotronic
Sequoia -EDGE
Sequoia-Advantage- full face
Avante- Vote Trakker- full face
Unilect-
Liberty-full face
I forget what the 7th one is.

More importantly -- stay tuned for the AGs office being sued-- before Corzine even get s thru the hoiday season.

3. I was going to sue the AG's office myself!
Glad I can drop them from my list, and tend to the other 8,000 things I have to take care of...

Can you give me dates on when exactly the ones besides Sequoia were officially certified?

4. Gusciora, et al., v. Codey, et al. (New Jersey)
Case referred by EFF to the Rutgers Constitutional Litigation Clinic that challenges the use of paperless DREs in New Jersey based on the New Jersey Constitution and election laws. Originally sought to stop the use of DREs in the November 2004 election, but the effort to seek long-term relief continues.

EFF's Amicus Brief July 6, 2005
Appellate Brief July 6, 2005
Complaint October 21, 2004
Memorandum October 21, 2004

Is the above what you might have been referring to?

6. ME? no-- Pennys case is currently unwinnable
proving future harm was the downfall, as per the opinion handed down by the judge.

Now proving past harm-- thats easier.

9. there is a rumor floating around that
Sequoia shipped and then took back tousands of Sequoia Advantages from NY state. The question is what happened to these tousnads of machines?

As far as individual voting equipment getting certified-- that doesnt happen. One machine is put forth for a test by a panel of 3. If certified, countys can then buy it.
