My thoughts on the upcoming gubernatorial race
As we all know, the retirement of governor Jim McGreevey means that there is going to be an open primary from both parties. So far, the two big names for the Democratic nomination are senator John Corzine and first district representative Robert Andrews.

As a far leftist, I generally like Corzine a lot more. He is a superb senator and I have no doubts that he would make a great governor. However, the fact of the matter is, he is a maverick and we need people like him in the Senate. He voted no on the war, no on the Bankruptcy Reform Act, and no on establishing free trade in several countries.

This is why I am going to be voting for Andrews in the primaries. Although he hasn't had exactly the best voting record, I believe that its better he or someone else wins the primary.

Though if Corzine wins the nomination, and it seems likely, I would definitely support him in the race for governor.

1. Rob Andrews is one great guy. So is Corzine.
I would hope that one of them chooses NOT to run, in deference to the other. The choice would be terrible. After all, Andrews is something of a maverick as well, so much so that the "bosses" know not to screw with him.

That said, Corzine, as I understand it, has a burning desire to clean up the messes in NJ, especially the fiscal messes and the ethical ones. He is not owned by anyone. Jon can get that done. Know it.

2. It will be a tough choice
I met Andrews in September and was very impressed with him, even moreso when I learned that he has sworn off the South Jersey bosses and that he takes the train home from Washington every night to be with his family.

Corzine, however, has the financial resources to be able to scare off challengers and to allow him to say FU to the likes of Lynch and Norcross, enabling him to do the right things for NJ.

Either way, I think we will have a great Democratic governor. :)

3. Definitely
Rumor has it that the two biggest challengers on the puke side are Bush-ites Schundler and Forrester, which says a lot about the GOPs chances of taking the governorship.
