Body found at NY skyscraper where woman vanished
Source: AP

NEW YORK (AP) — A cleaning woman who improbably vanished days ago from a Manhattan skyscraper bristling with security cameras was finally found dead Saturday, stuffed inside an air conditioning duct on the 12th floor.

Police discovered the corpse, hidden in a utility room, just before 9 a.m. as they began searching the 26-story tower for the fourth straight day.

As of early afternoon, there had been no official identification of the remains, but police spokesman Paul Browne said investigators presumed it to be the body of Eridania Rodriguez, 46, who had been missing since Tuesday night.

A medical examiner was on the scene trying to confirm the find and determine how the woman died. Authorities believe she was murdered, but haven't identified a suspect. They have questioned some people who work in the building.

1. Poor woman
Apparently she'd been worried about some guy who seemed to be stalking her.

7. They failed to mention the Crucifix

Pabon's lawyer said his client mourns for the victim but is innocent in the brutal murder of the Inwood mother of three.

"We want to tell the family of the deceased that we are sorry for their loss," attorney Mario Gallucci said. "My client had absolutely nothing to do with this."

The medical examiner ruled Rodriguez died of asphyxiation with a cross from around her neck taped to her mouth, perhaps caught there in a struggle.

Investigators already had Pabon in custody last Wednesday, but released him Thursday because they did not have any hard evidence.
