I canvassed for Obama today, here's what I learned

OBAMA needs volunteers badly! Volunteer tonight or first thing tomorrow!!!

I saw the volunteer shortage first hand when I went to the Winston Salem office today to pick up my canvassing materials. Many people have volunteered, but still we in North Carolina have fallen WAY short. Many were manning the phones, many volunteered. Even people from other states, including Florida were there. But it is not enough. We the people are not putting our feet on the ground or making the GOTV phone calls.

Obama can't win if we don't get out the vote for him.

Many of us have heard how well organized and well run his campaign is. We assume that someone else is doing the work. Well, North Carolina people have not volunteered in the numbers needed in our state. Its up to us to tell people about Obama. He can't win if we don't!

I went canvassing today, canvassed a very long street for several hours. The people were glad to see someone. They appreciated that someone cared enough to come to their neighborhood, to their house, and to speak to them. No one had told them how important their vote was, that they could register in early voting if they hadn't already registered. Many did not realize that North Carolina could very well decide who wins the election.

Many know surprisingly little about the presidential candidates, some were snowed by Clinton's pandering Summer Gas Tax Holiday (that Nancy Pelosi said congress won't pass).

It would take very little work to persuade those who are uncertain or have very little information to vote for Obama. Just telling them that he was the only candidate who doesn't accept DC lobbiest money yet the candidate who has raised the most money. Hes the only candidate who was always against the war, hes the only candidate who can change how Washington operates. He is the candidate who has won the most states, the most votes and the most delegates. Since the democratic nominee will most likely win the November GE< its important to vote for the candidate of real change. Although both Democratic candidates have very similar policies, Obama is more likely to get those policies enacted.

This is the sort of thing that people seemed to warm up to.

Hillary has done a good job of painting herself as the winner. The media promotes her as do the republicans. She talks tough, she sounds tough. This appeals to the less informed voters. The media and GOP are holding back on Clintons' huge negatives until after the nomination, and then it will be katie bar the door.

People who do not have internet access tend to fall for the mainstream media and also for the tough talk by Hillary Clinton. They don't know how her campaign is broke or have any information that counters her spin or lies, because the media is sheltering her campaign. They don't even know that she threatened to obliterate Iran. (Then gas went up some more!)

So its up to you to either:

a. make phone calls to get out the vote in North Carolina for Saturday and Tuesday. This is the easiest thing to do.

b. canvass neighborhoods (you can pick if you want, I asked to go to whatever neighborhood would be best to improve turnout for Obama. People will appreciate you coming to their neighborhood.

Well, I need to get going, the phone numbers are below, you can call up till at least 9 PM, but there may be people there after, don't know. Try anyway.
