The Cleveland Plain Dealer endorses Strickland
Quite surprising coming from them.....

Governor

Ted Strickland has the temperament, the understanding and the supporting cast to move Ohio toward wise goals
Sunday, October 08, 2006
At a time when Ohio's economic fortunes and job-generating capacities are fearfully diminished, voters are presented with two starkly different candidates in the race for governor:

Democrat Ted Strickland projects steadiness, but often appears stunningly free of vision.

Republican Ken Blackwell practically hemorrhages ideas, yet seems unencumbered by quality control.

Ohio doesn't need a caretaker in charge, so Strickland's apparent passivity is cause for concern. But even less does Ohio need a governor who would burn down state government in order to save it. Blackwell's history gives every indication that he could take that course.

Blackwell reeks of recklessness. His long record in public office suggests that he would freely engage in the exploration of potentially destructive ideas, even as he uses the governorship to make political mischief and sow social division on a grander scale than ever.

1. The PD usually waits to endorse in the big races....
It is refreshing that they are endorsing Strickland so early so that he can use the endorsement in his ad's...

It's not as big as it once was, but an endorsement this early from a major paper is good news...

2. And the Columbus Dispatch today as well....
sure hope Strickland has long coattails...

Wonder who the Cincinnati Enquirer will endorse???? Blackwell is a native son.

3. But considering what they did in 2004
The staff wanted to endorse Kerry and the editor said no. They endorsed no one. The PD is a rag of rags in my opinion.

5. Exactly.......
This is why I was so surprised they endorsed Strickland. "Rag of rags" is right.

6. Publisher Alex Machaskee overruled the vote of the editorial board
Voino-clone Brent Larkin and the very-insane Kevin O'Brien must have been mad and cried to mommy to stop the endorsement. What is sad is that the PD has a lot of good writers. The paper is way better than the Willougby News-Herald and the Warren Tribune (that's not saying much).

I think I spelled the former publisher's name correctly. Maybe we should just call him Maccaca.

4. translate Absentee Voting will be more significant than ever before
candidates and newspapers have to get their messages out earlier now.
