Sec. Blackwell trying to disqualify new voter registrations
In Ohio, there's an archaic rule that says new voter registration forms have to be printed on 80-pound paper. This goes back to the days when the cards were physically filed, rather than scanned and databased. It also has to do with the fact that the standard cards are actually "reply postcards" and the weight is required for the USPS.

So, now this assbag Blackwell wants to throw out any forms they've received that aren't on the 80-pound stock, even though they no longer physically file them, and even though they have already been received at the Sec. of State's office to be entered into the system.

This is clearly a partisan scam to trash registration forms printed from the internet, even though the very official looking sites where you can do this make no mention of the 80-pound paper requirement.

So, bouncing registrations for internet-leaning new voters? Think those skew Democrat?

We now have our answer.

BTW, this guy is a puke who has his eye on replacing our "idiot, stupid, corrupt, dumb, rotten Republican governor" in '06. Heaven help us...

1. I wonder...
... if Ken Blackwell is any relation to Morton Blackwell? They both seem to have similar views on a lot of subjects.

2. WOW!
And he's waited to a point that it will be tied up until after the election. He knows the outcome in the courts, but that's not the point.

So no registrations downloaded from the Sec. of State's office on the Internet will be accepted? It would be amazing if there were a free press, wouldn't it?

5. If this is really true.......
then Democrats are going to have to stage a general strike or some other sort of massive, nation-wide protest. We will also have to boycott ANYTHING coming from Ohio. If half the country threatens this smarmy piece of shit, we should be OK.

9. What is really strange is that there is no coverage of this outrage.
One article on a subscription only site, losing rights has become ordinary.

15. The Dayton Daily News is the local daily paper for Dayton..
...so it is at least getting some exposure here in the Miami Valley.

6. They are supposed to be mailing out the correct reg forms...
Edited on Sun Sep-26-04 07:57 PM by gmoney
to the people that they DQ on this technicality, but with a deadline of Oct 4, and a backlog of 4000 some applications, I'm betting a lot of folks won't get the new form in time to re-register before the deadline.

Oh, and the Sec. of State webpage doesn't let you print out the form... it allows you to request one to be mailed to you... when you put in your request, you get the message:

"You can expect your voter registration form(s) within a couple weeks."

Thanks, Ken

13. That story only talked about Montgomery county.
The other counties likely are in the same boat.

7. Please, Please keep us posted on this issue.
This is totally freaking me out. Your state Democratic headquarters needs to plan a really big protest ragarding disenfranchising voters.

11. I've been debating registering online
Edited on Mon Sep-27-04 11:32 AM by crozet4clark
and the sites I have visited have specified that #40 stock IS necessary to print out registration card in OHIO. There are several sites I have seen this paper listed on -- WTF?? Methinks OHIO is set to be the FLORIDA of 2004!!

Look here:
https://electionimpact1.votenet.com/declareyourself/eligibility.cfm

IMPORTANT!
You may register to vote in Ohio via this system. However, you must print the voter registration form on 40# card stock or Greeting Card stock. You may write to your local election officer to request the voter registration form on specified card stock. Alternately, you may save the completed form and have it printed at your local Kinko's, Staples or Officemax store.

12. We should picket Blackwell's office
I am sure that some registrations have already gone through with forms printed on normal-weight paper.

What pisses me off is that the sierra club in my area has been mailing out normal-weight paper forms to its' members.

Name the time.

EDIT:

Maybe signs that say "Ken Blackwell does not want you to vote.", and some handouts explaining his latest edict to the county election boards. Something like that...

14. Looks like that New York Times story must've spooked Blackwell...
..reporting that BIG spike in voter registration, particularly in Democratic areas....

So, he gets to work to try some voter supression.

The GOP bigwigs owe Blackwell bigtime for this...they need to endorse him for Governor, for sure.
