A group that includes two prominent East Tennessee businessmen and the children of a U.S. senator has bought five-thousand acres of mountain and forest land near Great Smoky Mountains National Park.
They plan to build up to 125 large homes on the property in the $19 million deal.
The purchase was led by Sam Beall, son of Ruby Tuesday Incorporated founder Sandy Beall. Sam Beall runs the upscale Blackberry Farm mountain resort in Walland.
The Three Sisters Mountain Investments group, named after three peaks on the property, includes the families of Pilot Corporation Chief Executive Jimmy Haslam and the adult children of U.S. Senator Lamar Alexander. The Alexander children will own a 1 percent stake.
The group bought the land from Atlanta-based New Forestry LLC.

Save Chilhowee Mountain and Protect the Watershed of Great Smoky Mountains National Park from a disastrous development on an ecologically sensitive and fragile mountainside.
If you haven't seen the destruction for yourself, drive up and over Chilhowee Mountain. Take Montvale Road (Hwy 336) and continue approximately 9 miles from Downtown Maryville to view from Happy Valley Road, OR, take Foothills Parkway from Walland (Hwy 321) or Chilhowee Lake (Hwy 129) to Look Rock Overlook and Fire Tower.
Save Chilhowee Mountain and Protect the Watershed of Great Smoky Mountains National Park from a disastrous development on an ecologically sensitive and fragile mountainside.
Change is inevitable; however, change must be tempered by sensitivity to our surroundings, the natural beauty of our mountains, the quality of our water, and the quality of life for all citizens --- not just the wealthy perched on the sides and tops of our mountains.
