House passes $49.9 billion in spending cuts
WASHINGTON (Reuters) - The House of Representatives on Friday narrowly voted to trim social programs for the poor along with farm subsidies, student loans and other federal benefits as part of a $49.9-billion package of spending cuts.

The "deficit-reduction" plan passed the House by a cliff-hanger vote of 217-215, with all Democrats and 14 Republicans voting against the Republican-authored bill.

Lets hold all these repukes who voted against the people, accountable. Ron Paul, is a Libertarian and voted no.

Early estimates of what this cut means for Travis County (Austin area) for example, is about $500,000. These human needs don't just go away; they get absorbed by cities and counties who have to struggle to make up for the federal cuts. Lamar Smith and Michael McCaul voted against us in Travis. We won't forget.

1. I warned Sam Johnson last week that I was watching
and that voting for this bill would be immoral. Guess he doesn't have any morals (big surprise). We're going to fight to get his ass kicked out.

2. Me too Moc; I called Lamar Smith's office on this upcoming vote
He never bucks his party, and he still thinks that budget cuts for the rich are working. He thinks our economy is right on track growing and producing good jobs.

I'm working to get his failed leadership out of Congress too.

3. "I'll pass your concerns to the Congressman"
That is what Odelle at Lamar's office said to me. Not much of a response and he went ahead and voted against us anyway. Down with Lamar, we deserve a real Congressman (or woman).

5. Ouch, good slap John
But we do have some good Congressmen on the Ways and Means Committee. Lloyd Doggett from Austin is on that committee and he's a good man. We just have a corrupt party in control of congress right now.

The sad thing is that the republicans that voted for this really don't think this is going to hurt anyone. They really can't conceive of anyone being hurt by what they call "modest" cuts. A modest cut by their standards still kills. And then you have Smokey Joe Barton who almost voted no, because the ANWR drilling was left out. He is such a nut case and toady for the oil industry.
