Were not going to win in Texas in '06 aren't we?
Atleast on a state level. it dosen't look good to win espically for the Governor and Senate race. Every day I go to various sites and I see the polls for the TX governors race and there not hopeful, Perry looks like to have a commanding lead over Grammage and Bell(by 10 points)And Democrats can't even decide who they want(atleast 60% of them in the latest polls.)

I really can't talk too much about the Senate race cause I don't the polls and such between Hutchison and Radnofsky.

But Texas here's a way we as Democrats to win in '06 is on a local level is by doing this

-Find a way to take back the Texas Legisature, I don't why it's such a big deal but I know alot of people complained that after re-districting and the republicans took over the legisture.

-People that live in CD-22 vote out Tom DeLay and vote in Nick Lampson

-People living in CD-28 you want a real Democrat in that seat, well vote out that DINO Henry Cuellar.

That's the way to win, agreed?

1. We are going to take back 3 or 4 Texas lege seats from the Rs
See our predictions on this thread:

http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=180x26791

Also, I think a LOT of parents are very mad with the lege's inability to fund the schools and give us some property tax relief. There are several wellfunded R primary challengers to incumbents. Hopefully some of these will win in the primary, cross your fingers. If we can take 3 or 4 seats for us and hopefully the moderate Repubs take back 4 or 5 seats then we will see a BIG change in the lege, mark my words. Hopefully we will get a lege that will GET SOMETHING DONE about the freaking schools, DAMNIT.

At this point most of us aren't even worried about statewides, we are worried about taking back the lege and capturing a lot of local races for our baby Dems that will grow up to be big Dems. For example judges, county clerks etcetera. I think we are doing very well. The grassroots is busy busy busy. But we can always use some more help Are you signed up to work a polling place for the primary? How about some blockwalking or phonebanking, what strikes your fancy? :7

2. Too early to say. In the governor race, we stand a real chance in a three
way race. It's too early to look at polls in that race as Gammage's campaign has only just begun and Bell hasn't enjoyed the spotlight that either Gammage or Bell will have once they secure the nomination. Gubernatorial polls at this stage (just like '08 presidential polls you're now seeing) are all about name identification, which Bell and Gammage currently lack but which they will gain swiftly upon wrapping up the nomination.

In other races, I think Van Os stands a chance. Just today, the Texas Bar poll regarding judicial candidates handed Bill Moody a big win over his Reptile opponents for the Texas Supreme Court. Radnofsky is an unbelievably hard worker and good campaigner, and KBH's poll numbers continue to drop and her cheerleader for Bush/Cheney isn't quite the A+ game plan it seemed just a year ago.

Let's not throw in the towel just yet.

3. I agree that we are going to do most of the things you listed
We'll pick up at least 5 seats in the Texas House, maybe more. Not enough for control this cycle, but we're building the party to take our state back.

DeLay is toast. Nick Lampson will return to Congress. Ciro Rodriguez will win in CD28 and oust closet republican Henry Cuellar. And I know that we're also going to take CD21 from the republicans as well. Lamar Smith will be retired to his pasture in Cape Cod. John Courage and his campaign team will make sure we oust that DeLay clone as well.

We are winning!

Thanks for stopping by the Texas forum and paying attention to our political scene.
:hi:
