God on my license plate
I just got a notice from TxDot saying that for $40 dollars to support safe routes to schools I will get 'God' on my license plate.

WHAT THE F***K? No separation of church and state. Proselytizing from the state. AND, if you want to pay for sidewalk repairs with a little extra money, then you must accept religion.

1. No you don't. Get a plate without a reference to God.
'Animal Friendly' is my favorite.

Now what bugs ME is the more and more common sight around Houston of Christian Churches holding services in public school facilities on the weekends. If my tax money is subsidizing the use of a public facility by a tax-emempt religion, then I'm really pissed.

2. Can you do the sidewalk repairs without God on your plate?
That sounds kind of funny.

3. School use by churches also common in Austin
But my understanding is that the churches pay a fee for the use of the facilities.

4. They pay to use the building.
We met in a high school for years until we could raise the money for a building and not be in debt.

5. It covers A/C, lights and everything?
I hope so.

6. I don't know how the price is set
but I'm guessing the school district probably has a set fee schedule based on all factors such as A/C, elec, etc. Churches aren't the only organizations that use the schools during downtime.

8. My precinct uses a church as a polling place
It's really the only available space and the church is very gracious in offering the use of their building. They are paid a small amount to cover the use of utilities. The building is used for both the Democratic and Republican primaries.

7. I don't suppose they would give you a pentagram?
Nah. Probably not.
