What do people in Crawford think of Dubya?
Edited on Mon Aug-30-04 05:19 AM by Cascadian
This is something I have been wondering about. I understand that the mayor there has decided to back Kerry. But what do the other people in that town really think of their infamous neighbor? I also understand that the Bush ranch isn't a real ranch. Am I wrong?

Thanks in advance.

John

1. The Phoney Cowboy from Crawford...
Edited on Mon Aug-30-04 06:10 AM by rfranklin
had that "ranch" built as a stage set during the 2000 campaign. He has never been seen near a horse and it's rumored he is deathly afraid of them.

In that area, people have farms, not "ranches," and his property was actually a pig farm, I recall.

on edit:
From Democrats.com

Have you seen all those article and pictures of Bush "at home on the ranch" in Crawford - the ones that imply that he is "just an ole ranch hand" more comfortable on the family homestead than in the "Big City," be it Austin or D.C.? Well, if you bought this image, you've been royally snuckered. The Bush family homestead in Crawford is nothing more than an elaborate set. The house, built in 2000, was designed to be ready for Bush to step into - like a set awaiting an actor - during the 2000 presidential election. Not only was the "ranch" created in 2000 - so, essentially, was the "town" of Crawford! Before then only about 400 people lived in the area. The Crawford Chamber of Commerce and Agriculture were formed shortly after the ranch was finished.

2. Interesting question, would you like to talk to someone that lives there?
She also helps to run the Peace House. PM me if you want more info. We have lots to say. And yes, John, the Bush "Ranch" is not a real ranch by any definition of "ranch". Don't you have the map? It was a pig farm when it was purchased by the Bush family. It is nothing now but a large amount of acreage surrounded by lots of Secret Service. RANCH MY ASS!!!!!!!!!!1 Sorry I got a little carried away.

3. In an attempt to answer your other questions, this is a town divided.
Bush, being the President, is "good for business". Several shops are doing well selling Bush propaganda (sp?). Many others are just small town and love Bush, period. Many others stay neutral and many more stay silent out of fear. This is "DEEP IN THE HEART OF TEXAS"!

Keep in mind - "You are either with us or against us" - he said it, I didn't.

And then there was the "be careful what you say" remark.

What would you do and what position would you take in this very small town? It is a challenge every day and that is why the guy I know bought the house to turn into the "PEACE HOUSE". Johnnie Wolfe is my hero and then some.
