Perry campaign recruiters getting paid per head

Perry campaign recruiters getting paid per head
Gov. Rick Perry woos campaign volunteers by talking about fiscal restraint, limited government and states' rights.

And if all that fails, he offers them cash.

The Republican governor's re-election campaign is paying volunteers to sign up other volunteers, and it promises more cash for those turning out voters in the March primary. The campaign hopes for big dividends from the Amway-style program, known as Perry Home Headquarters.

(snip)

It's not unusual for a campaign to offer incentives for volunteers, but they usually consist of campaign souvenirs or special opportunities, such as meeting the candidate. Cash is a rare reward but perfectly legal.

Critics say it's no different from shadowy operatives using "street money" to maximize turnout at the polls.

"It's ripe for abuse," said Democratic political consultant Jason Stanford, who managed former U.S. Rep. Chris Bell's losing campaign against Perry in 2006. "It's the Anglo ACORN. A dishonest Perry supporter could create a huge scam."

I wish Stanford hadn't used ACORN's name. He's wrong for playing that game and then calling it "Anglo ACORN" is even worse.

And I'm sure most of you knew that Tina Weenie went to work for Little Ricky:

State GOP chair resigns to work for Perry

Tina Benkiser will leave her post as chairwoman of the Texas Republican Party next month so she can join Gov. Rick Perry’s campaign as a senior adviser.

In announcing her move, Benkiser called Perry the “only true conservative” in the race — a clear shot at U.S. Sen. Kay Bailey Hutchison, who is challenging Perry for the Republican nomination.

Why does Tina hate women?

Perry obviously has too much money already. :puke:

This kind of prejudiced comment from the DEMOCRATIC campaign guy? This is part of what I'm talking about with Texas Democrats offering so little. Yes, it's still a lot better then the Repubs do IMO. (Not counting cash I mean.)

2. Jason Stanford is not a great consultant
Unfortunately he's the one that got quoted. I guess they asked him because he advised the Chris Bell Campaign when Chris ran for Governor.

I hope he's not currently working for any of the statewide candidates on the Democrat's side.

Perry campaign: Webcast was victim of ‘political sabotage’

Gov. Rick Perry’s campaign says that his Webcast this morning was attacked, preventing users from logging in to watch Perry deliver a campaign message.

"This planned and coordinated attack was political sabotage, and we are working to identify those responsible for this illegal activity," said campaign spokesman Mark Miner.

Miner did not say how many people were affected, but he did say that more than 22,000 users did log in to watch the video, which featured Perry at a Caterpillar dealer talking about Texas’ success luring jobs to the state. Perry, standing in front of a giant Texas flag and a few Caterpillar workers, also talked about what he said was out-of-control spending in Washington, his standard way of criticizing his GOP gubernatorial challenger Sen. Kay Bailey Hutchison.

I logged in about 10 minutes before the Webcast and was able to see it, but another Statesman staffer who attempted to log in after it started got an error message that said: "Unable to connect to database server … This could mean your hosting provider’s database server is down."

Talking Points memo is reporting it was probably a Lieberman type of whine.

Never Ends Well
Ooo boy. You know it's going to be good when one campaign has some big website meltdown and accuses the other campaign of website sabotage. Today it's incumbent Texas Gov. Rick Perry accusing his political opponents (he doesn't say Kay Bailey Hutchison directly, but certainly seems to be implying it) of being responsible for making his website crash during a live video webcast.

The eventual denouement is almost always a few weeks later when the police find it was some server configuration error or simple overload.
