Want to help Tom Krebsbach run a pro-impeachment ad?
Subject: Effective Action for IMPEACHMENT

Dear Friends,

I have launched an effort to publish an ad in the Seattle Times and Seattle PI which criticizes our congressional leaders in Western Washington for not supporting the IMPEACHMENT of Bush and Cheney. The ad is attached to this email.

Since I am not a millionaire, I am asking those, who are concerned like I am about this issue, to pledge a donation to print this ad. To pledge, simply email me (Tom Krebsbach at tkrebsbach@msn. com) with your name and a pledge amount. When it is time to honor the pledge with a check, I will ask you to send the check for the ad to Washington for Impeachment http://www.washingtonforim peachment .org

Many of us have justifiably thought that IMPEACHMENT of Bush and Cheney is an action which is well deserved. Not only is it well deserved, it is an essential action for repairing the damage that has been done to our system of democracy by the crimes of Bush and Cheney.

We all felt with Democrats taking over in Congress that the impeachment of Bush and Cheney was just around the corner. To our wonderment and chagrin, the geniuses who lead the Democrats have not been willing to even consider it. Their motive for overlooking this necessary measure seems to be that it could damage their political fortunes in the future. While that possibility is extremely remote, they are only too eager to put political considerations above important considerations of principle.

This self serving and arrogant stance by Democrats requires a strong response from those who care about our system of government and the ideals we once thought this country embraced. It is vitally important that we give our congressional leaders heat for their stupidity and arrogance.

Unfortunately, it is very easy for them to dismiss emails, town halls, and other efforts which call for them to take action on impeachment. Those calling for impeachment are simply labeled as a bunch of "leftist wackos" who have very little bearing on political outcomes. In other words, they can thumb their noses at us and take us for granted.

However, not only is about 70% of the population sick of Bush and Cheney, there is strong sentiment in the country for impeachment even before the case has been made. We need to appeal to these people in a broad based manner. That is the only way in which pressure can be brought to bear on unprincipled politicians who are only really frightened by one thing: loss of support which will cost them an election.

With this in mind, I started the campaign to place an ad in the Seattle Times and PI which truly takes our congressional leaders to task for their timidity on this issue. By placing the ad in the Times and PI, well over a million people will see it.

The cost for this ad is high, $10,000. But the costs can be spread around to many people. Already about 60 to 70 people have pledged to donate about $2500 for the printing of this ad. I don't think I exaggerate when I state that pledging support for this ad may be one of the most important things you can do within the sphere of national politics and public policy.

I have neglected a very important reason why we must bring pressure on our congressional leaders to begin impeachment proceedings. Many of you have probably read the reports from former CIA analyst Bob Baer that most in the intelligence community think Bush and Cheney will attack Iran within the next 6 months to a year. If you think the invasion and occupation of Iraq is a disaster, just wait till you see what happens when we attack Iran. Indeed, there is an outside chance that such an attack could lead to world war.

WE MUST DO ALL WE CAN TO GET THE CRIMINAL DUO OF BUSH AND CHENEY OUT OF OFFICE AS SOON AS POSSIBLE!!! Surely, contributing $20 to $30 can not be too high of a price to pay for an action which will significantly advance the cause of impeachment.

Please help out by pledging a donation.

Thanks much,
Tom Krebsbach

PS The highest pledge so far has been $250.

1. Bravo, and good luck!!!!
While I share many of the sentiments you do, I have already donated to many liberal causes. I am volunteering to spread the word, that is my part. Am continually amazed and horrified that we are not witnessing mass protests in the streets. Bushco is the worst!!

2. Just a little more will put him over the top.

Dear Friends,

Over the last three to four weeks you have all pledged to contribute money to the publishing of the attached ad, which criticizes our elected officials for not supporting impeachment of Bush and Cheney.

I would like to report to you the current status of this campaign.

As of today (9/20), 200 people have pledged a total of $6200 for the publishing of the ad. The cost of the ad is about $7200.

I am totally in awe of the large number of people who are willing to contribute their hard earned money to send a strong political message to our failing members of Congress. No fat cats have pledged a contribution, as far as I am aware. This is totally the effort of ordinary working folks who care deeply about our democracy. It is most definitely a grass roots effort

The management of the Seattle Times has given the green light to the ad, if two "PAID ADVERTISEMENT" in 16 point font are inserted at the top. Some had suggested to me that the Times would refuse to print the ad.

The only thing now standing in the way of printing this ad is another $1000 in pledges. That is the amount that must yet be secured.

I must admit it is getting harder and harder to secure the remaining pledges. I have been to many community peace vigils and peace and justice meetings around Western Washington to ask people to pledge. I am beginning to run out of options for securing more pledges.

While I will continue in my efforts to gain the remaining pledges, I would like to suggest two ways in which those who have already pledged can help narrow the $1000 gap.

1. You can tell your friends and associates about this campaign and urge them to pledge an amount to this campaign. They can pledge by simply contacting me via email with their names and pledge amounts.

2. Those who have the financial means may want to consider upping their pledges a little. (If you do not remember what you originally pledged, ask me in an email and I will tell you.) If a hundred people, half of those who pledged, increased their pledges by $5 to $10, we would be very close to the goal of $7200 and could get the ad printed.

Please consider seriously the above two strategies for narrowing the remaining $1000 gap. After all this effort, I would hate to discontinue this campaign without printing the ad because we could not get close enough to the needed pledge total.

Consider also what the publishing of this ad might accomplish.

1. It could convince more members of the Washington State delegation to support H.REs. 333, which calls for the impeachment of Cheney.

2. It might convince groups in other cities to take the same approach, thus snowballing congressional support for impeachment.

3. It might be the spark needed to get the impeachment debate going strongly in this country. The more people think about impeachment, the more support will be generated for it. At some point support for impeachment will be so strong that it cannot be stopped or silenced.

I would like to thank you all for your generous pledges. You all have my deepest regard and respect.

Sincerely,
Tom Krebsbach

4. Done! The ad will run in the Times and the PI on October 19th
The impeachment ad has been paid for and is scheduled to be published Friday, Oct. 19th, in the Seattle Times and Seattle PI.

We did it! We will send a strong message to our spineless members of Congress about their failure to protect and defend the Constitution of the United States.

Linda Boyd of Washington For Impeachment and I will likely hold a press conference that day to bring more attention to the ad and to the issue. I will keep you apprised of what is happening in that regard.

I want to thank you all for your tremendous help and support in this campaign.

With the highest regard for all of you,
Tom Krebsbach

6. Press conference followup
Dear Friends,

We published the impeachment ad, criticizing our elected representatives for not supporting the impeachment of the criminals, Bush and Cheney.

I thank you all for your wonderful support in publishing the ad.

Now, we must follow through by calling the offices of Murray, Cantwell, and our representatives to demand that they support impeachment or we will withdraw our support from them. Once you have done that, please consider calling the offices of other representatives in the ad and asking them to support impeachment.

It is vitally important that these people feel the pressure. I have already called Murray, Cantwell, and Inslee, my representative. I plan to call the others in the ad today or within the next few days.

Let's get the impeachment train rolling.

Thanks,
Tom Krebsbach

7. Tom et al had a guest editorial in the P-I
Dear Friends,

Over a month ago, we all invested some of our monies to publish an ad in The Seattle Times and The Seattle PI which criticized our congressional leaders for not supporting the impeachment of Bush and Cheney. The one day ads in each paper cost slightly over $7400 and took donations from close to 200 people to purchase.

Some of you may have wondered whether it was a worthwhile investment. I admit I have wondered that at times.

It is hard to estimate what effect publishing of the ad had on those congressional leaders and on public policy. But please consider this.

A few weeks ago, I started communicating by email with members of the Post-Intelligencer editorial board, in an effort to set up a meeting dealing with the issue of impeachment I was successful in this endeavor, and Linda Boyd of Washington For Impeachment, one other person, and I met with four members of the PI editorial board to talk about impeachment. Our goal was to convince the PI to come out in editorial support of the impeachment of Cheney and Bush.

As a result of this meeting, Linda Boyd was invited to write a lengthy op-ed on the need for impeachment and have it published in today's (Sunday, November 25th) PI Focus section. You may have noticed or read this piece in the Sunday paper today. If not, you can link to the op-ed here: http://seattlepi.nwsource.com/opinion/340904_focusimpeachment25.html

I am convinced this could not have happened without the publishing of the impeachment ad on Friday, October 19th. The publishing of that ad gave the impeachment movement in this area a certain amount of credibility, which the editors of the PI felt they should recognize. That credibility led to our meeting with the editorial board, which led to the publishing of the op-ed by Linda. It is a perfect example of leveraging people power to gain influence over the mainstream media.

I want you to know that you made this possible. And I want you to know that we are continuing to use the publishing of the ad that you paid for to advance the cause of impeachment.

Thanks so much,
Tom Krebsbach

9. Tom is now working on NYT
Dear Friends,

I recently took an action to advance the cause of impeachment, and I want to suggest an action which you can also take in that regard.

I sent an email to the editorial board of The New York Times, asking that they, as trustees of American democracy, perform their Fourth Estate duty by calling for the impeachment of Cheney and Bush. I have pasted that email below for you to read. You can also view it at WashingtonForImpeachment.org at this link: http://www.washingtonforimpeachment.org/blog/index.php?entry=entry071204-135817.

I would like to suggest that you also consider sending The New York Times editorial board an email, demanding that they call for the impeachment of Cheney and Bush. The email address to use is editorial {at} nytimes.com.

I believe that for impeachment to succeed a portion of the main stream media needs to get behind it. Once that happens, impeachment will become like a freight train rolling down a mountainside: unstoppable.

Based on their editorials, The Times recognizes the criminality of the Bush/Cheney administration. Now they need to take that added step of calling for impeachment.

The head of the editorial board for The New York Times is Andrew Rosenthal. Pictures of the editorial board and narratives of their backgrounds can be viewed on this page: http://www.nytimes.com/ref/opinion/editorial-board.html.

If you take this action, I would be interested in reading your email to the Times editorial board. So you can also copy it to me, if you would like

The following are some points you might make in your email, should you send one.

- Bush and Cheney are the most criminal president and vice president this country has ever had to endure.
- It is the job of the media to tell America that criminal leaders must be removed from office for the good of the country.
- Impeachment of Bush and Cheney will go a long way to restoring America's reputation and honor.
- Impeachment of Bush and Cheney will help insure that future leaders of this country will not undermine our democracy the way Bush and Cheney have.
- The rule of law requires that criminal leaders like Bush and Cheney be held accountable for their crimes. Failure to hold them accountable undermines the American system of justice.
- Failure to repudiate Bush and Cheney through impeachment will tend to establish their criminal policies as acceptable in the American political system.
- Failure to rightfully impeach Bush and Cheney will lead to cynicism and disillusionment among the electorate and a weakening of support for our system of government.

Thanks for your support,

tom krebsbach

Dear Mr. Rosenthal,

Though I have sent this email to you, it is intended for the full New York Times editorial board.

Dear New York Times Editorial Board,

It is apparent to me from a number of editorials that have appeared in the New York Times recently that the editorial board of the New York Times gets it. The New York Times editorial board fully understands the corruption and criminality of the Bush/Cheney administration and the harm this administration has done to our democratic form of government.

As you no doubt are aware, the Bush/Cheney administration is operating under the guidance of the Unitary Executive Theory of government, as championed by Vice President Cheney and his counsel David Addington. According to this completely bogus and baseless theory of constitutional government, the president has complete control over the executive branch and is not bound by constraints imposed by congressional checks and balances. Furthermore, the president, as commander-in-chief, is unilaterally responsible for American foreign and military policy and may ignore at his discretion and whim international laws and laws passed by Congress which interfere with his duties as commander-in-chief.

Using the Unitary Executive Theory as a justification, the Bush/Cheney administration has developed and put in effect some very radical and un-American policies. A country which once stood for human rights, now tortures. A country once known for protection of individual rights and liberties, now affords the chief executive the power to declare citizens "unlawful combatants" and imprison them without right to due process of law and a right to trial. A country which once honored the privacy of its citizens, now eavesdrops on their communications without warrant and at will. A country which prided itself on the independence of its Department of Justice, now sees incompetent, partisan hacks being installed to run this department. A country which once criticized the U.S.S.R. for its propaganda, now has an administration pushing off "covert propaganda", created with tax payer money, to local news programs. A country which endowed the people's representatives in Congress the sole ability to make the laws of the land, now sees an administration which determines which parts of laws it will obey and which parts it will ignore.

The seven years of the Bush/Cheney administration have literally been a reign of terror. The crimes that have been committed during this reign of terror far surpass any crimes committed during the Nixon administration. These crimes will not simply go away when Bush and Cheney are out of office. These crimes, unless fully and unequivocally repudiated by America, set legal precedents which have the effect of changing the American system of government. The precedents undermine values we have held sacred since the founding of this nation. This has been made very clear by knowledgeable writers such as Bruce Fein, John Nichols, and Charlie Savage.

The New York Times editorial board understands this, I am convinced. In the November 16, 2007 editorial, "In Contempt", the editorial board pronounced the administration's refusal to let White House Chief of Staff, Joshua Bolten, and former White House Counsel, Harriet Miers, testify before the House Judiciary Committee as illegal. You went on to point out, "Just as important, by ignoring valid Congressional subpoenas, Ms. Miers and Mr. Bolten are dangerously challenging Congress’s power — and the careful system of checks and balances established by the founders." Clearly, this challenge, if not repudiated, undermines our democratic form of government.

In a November 11, 2007 editorial, "Abdicate and Capitulate", the Times editorial board criticized Sen. Schumer and Democrats in general for not standing up to the lawless nature of the Bush/Cheney administration, but rather giving in to the administration by giving Mr. Mukasey a pass into the role of Attorney General. You ended this editorial by stating, "But Democrats have done precious little to avoid the kind of spectacle the world saw last week: the Senate giving the job of attorney general, chief law enforcement officer in the world’s oldest democracy, to a man who does not even have the integrity to take a stand against torture."

The Times was right to point out to the world the spineless nature of the Democratic-led Congress because they have essentially abdicated their paramount duty to "Protect and Defend the Constitution of the United States" from an insidious internal assault by the Bush/Cheney administration.

Isn't it time now that the New York Times editorial board demonstrate that they are more responsible and courageous than the derelict Congress which now disserves this nation? Isn't it time that the New York Times, America's leading newspaper, frankly and resolutely tells the American public what it needs to hear: that for the good of our country and our democracy the Bush/Cheney administration must be completely and unequivocally repudiated through the impeachment of the criminals Richard B. Cheney and George W. Bush?

Please do not say that there is not enough time for impeachment, because without a doubt there is. Please do not say, as the Democrats are wont to do, that the votes are not there. In a country governed by the rule of law, when people commit horrendous crimes, regardless of their positions, they are held accountable. This must especially be true when those crimes have such a deleterious effect on our nation and its form of government. Whether the votes are there or not, it is vitally important for the well-being of our nation and its government that an attempt be made to hold Bush and Cheney accountable for their monstrous crimes. History must record that this generation did not simply stand by idly while Bush and Cheney did their best to destroy our democracy.

I and others will be watching. We know you understand the criminal nature of this administration. We will be watching to see if you are capable of fulfilling the responsibility of the Fourth Estate to act as trustees and guardians of our democracy. We will be watching to see if you have the courage to tell America the truth.

The time to act is short. Do not hesitate.

Sincerely,
Tom Krebsbach (Vietnam veteran)
