Here is an email message that I just picked up:

Dear Lasher:

One of the most contemptible and cynical political strategies to emerge in recent years is the challenging of an opponent's patriotism.

Here in West Virginia, my opponent is attempting to rewrite history by running a smear ad attacking my patriotism and support for our military. His Washington consultants may have succeeded with this deceit in other campaigns, but I will not stand by idly while my opponent attempts to tear down my long record of public service.

I will not sit by while the airwaves are filled with lies and distortions.

My campaign has launched a strong response ad, which features a West Virginia veteran who served our country in Operation Enduring Freedom.
