Wood apologizes for OWI arrest, surrenders committee chairmanship

State Rep. Jeff Wood on Monday apologized for his "irresponsible behavior" last week when he was arrested in Columbia County for drunken driving, possession of marijuana and drug paraphernalia.

Wood, I-Bloomer, was arrested on Interstate 94 by the State Patrol in Columbia County early Friday morning. He was booked into the Columbia County Jail in Portage about 2 a.m. and released at 9 a.m. A deputy at the Columbia County Jail said Wood was arrested on charges of operating while intoxicated-first offense, possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia. Wood was booked at about 3 a.m. and released by about 9 a.m., when he posted $200 bond.

He drove drunk... the dope could have been planted and if they didn't do a blood test to prove he was under the influence then may have been totally irrelevant even if it was his. Get over your prejudices.

Never pretended to be innocent of the charges from the start. Said he made some bad decisions.

I was referring to the automatic sentiment of druggie, druggie, druggie by the responder. Run for the hills, don't want to be associated etc, etc. Funny thing is you are correct; he was honest about it that just shows that dope smokers have more integrity than most would ever give them credit for. I still can't forgive him for the dwi tho...

Perhaps you can point me to where this specific sentiment was expressed. As far as I can tell, this is a DWI problem that resulted in an accident, one that the original poster and the responder feared pukes may have tried to attach to Dems and would upset the power dynamic in Madison.

on edit: I'm not surprised Wood took the honorable, honest approach. By everything I've heard, he's a decent guy, which, I'm sure, is why he left his party. But he's still not a DEM. I agree with tanglefoot, better a Dem had his seat.
