So how is the recall campaign going? If you had 185,000 protesters, every one of them should be gath
ering signatures and closing the door on this thing. They should also be out in droves getting the more liberal/moderate lady running for the Supreme Court elected over that jerk incumbent. You can't just protest. That is not very effective. You have to be POLITICALLY ACTIVE.
I hope it is going well. Last I heard they had over half the signatures needed and that many signature gathering activities were going on throughout the state this weekend. Everyone is watching Wisconsin. If the recall is successful and Dems re-take the senate there, it will bolster Dem/Progressive confidence all over the nation and scare the living shit out of the RePUKES.

1. It's happening
I believe at least 2 recalls have enough sigs already with 1 mo. left to go, and the others are looking good.

So, what are you doing in Maine? With all due respect, pls remember the radical right is using the same "shock and awe" strategy at this time to ram thru legislation all across the nation, not only in Wisconsin - all hands on deck are needed EVERYWHERE - can't wait for someone else to do it.

2. We have also had protests and LOTS of letters to the editor, op eds, editorials, etc. hammering on

our TeaBag governor Paul "LePUKE" LePage. The Maine unions are very active right now. This is a national conspiracy by the radical right and their corporate think tanks to destroy unions and any power the middle class has left in this country. LePuke has already done a lot of stupid things, and it will be very interesting to see if he sticks to his threat of vetoing the budget if he doesn't get everything he wants. He is the puppet of the Maine Heritage Foundation, and we have a bit more to go before things get really heated. It will be interesting. Stay tuned. The unions and Dems are ready to go. I will say this. We have a highly motivated new state party chairman who has been slamming the pukes at every turn, and plans are already underway to target the state House of Reps and re-take that in 2012. Maybe the Senate too which will be a little harder, but I expect the House to fall to us in the next election cycle.

4. 40 sigs in 2 weekends- about 5 hours door to door
Today I worked off a "friendly list". Got about same number per
hour as I did "cold calling" last week, going door to door: 8-10
sigs/hour in Franklin.

Others are using signs at major intersections. Feel free to
use these. Printed
one today at kinkos for about $11.

5. Great Work. Imagine how soon you'd have all the sigs you'd need if every protester went door to
door too. THAT is the MAIN thing they need to be doing:getting those signatures.

6. I didn't do as well
Only 2 in an hour and a half. That was about half my assigned neighborhood. It is tough knocking on doors in a conservative area.

please remember that every single one counts and that if there are thousands of people out getting signatures, as there should be, TOGETHER you are all making a big difference. Please keep at it. Get the job done. The whole world is watching. :-)

8. Its a both/and, not either/or
Are you thinking if protests are happening the recall work isn’t getting done? The large protests haven’t happened the last 2 weeks exactly because things are happening locally/regionally instead of everyone coming to Madison – don’t forget this is a statewide effort – teachers, union folks & others in their communities. People in Madison are yes keeping a Saturday protest tradition alive but also working on phone canvassing to identify recall signers, data entry & Kloppenburg campaign (also very important). It’s a 2-3 hr drive from Madison to the districts needing the most help at this point and there are people doing that, I’ll prob rent a car next few weekends and make a 3-day weekend out of it.

Now re the protests themselves – saw another post of yours minimizing their importance. Someday I’m going to write a piece about the whole psycho-spiritual dimension of protest, but for now I’ll just say that we had to come together to feel our power before we could do ANYTHING. Maybe I shouldn’t speak for everyone but I know I’m not the only one who’s said that! You’ve read THE SHOCK DOCTRINE? There's a reason Dems/left has habitually caved over the years - five weeks of loud vocal protests are exactly what needed to happen to break through numbness, fear and isolation.

And meeting/talking directly, face to face, with all these people from various other walks of life - how else can you get that? As a marshall I got to talk to a large cross section of people – I guess maybe I looked like I knew something. There were quite a few independents & moderate repubs, never ever been to a protest before but got in their car and came to Madison because they thought the gov went too far and they wanted to see for themselves what was happening. You can’t buy that kind of advertising. There are times when the face time is absolutely essential I think....

9. I certainly agree they have some value. I am just saying people need to do much more than rally and

protest. The electoral work is FAR more effective in actually getting things accomplished and making real change happen. But yes, the rallies and protests do help in certain ways. I just hope those doing the rallying don't think it stops there. That is just the beginning. Too many people go to rallies and protests but don't actually do the real work of campaigning. If everyone who attended Obama's rallies in 2010 had volunteered for campaigns, we would not have lost so many races.

10. yep, I'd go along with that
Heck, at least VOTE if nothing else!!! I've often found myself the side of the argument that says we must go and VOTE even if the guy is a big disappointment, or not left enough, or too much of a weinie or whatever. Well it's been a wake up call and Im fairly hopeful that we'll STAY AWAKE for a long time - to get everything done that needs to be done.

Anyway... good luck in Maine and keep up the good work, sounds like you have your hands full with your own gov.

11. I have had a few business trips into WI over the past few weeks
and I have seen two separate vehicles on the road with "Recall Walker" bumper stickers on. It is a hopeful sign, and they are in the outer ring red Milwaukee suburbs.
