Ellis: Doyle plan deserves support
Neenah lawmaker says GOP pushes politics over solution

--snip--
State Sen. Mike Ellis — a Neenah Republican and longtime fiscal watchdog — said his party’s lawmakers should support the Democratic governor’s plan.

“This is the best property tax relief mechanism that you could have designed in Madison,” Ellis told The Post-Crescent. Assembly Republicans are preparing to act on their version of a tax freeze next Tuesday.

Ellis said GOP lawmakers are pushing their plan while knowing Doyle will veto it. “They don’t care about resolving a problem,” he said. “They want to keep it a political issue. I am convinced.”

--snip--
Ellis compared the way Assembly Republicans follow their leadership to the way members of the “People’s Temple” religious group followed leader Jim Jones to their deaths in northern Guyana in 1978. Many members of the group died after drinking cyanide-laced fruit punch at Jones’ orders.

Ellis said Assembly members should think for themselves.

“At some point, we’ve got to stop drinking the Kool-Aid,” he said.

....more. :)

2. Now if we can get the Dems to stop drinking their own Kool-Aid
we might get some of Ellis' campaign finance reform. Hopefully, this is a political trade-off.

3. Ooooo. Could be a mistake.
Every time a decent Republican steps forward, the pukes eat them. There aren't very many moderates left. I hope he's got some evidence on Gard to keep the dogs at bay.

8. Ellis
The conservative wing of the state Republican party dispises Ellis, a RINO and all that. The RW talkers rip on him. Wished more Republican were like him.

6. Quote from Ed Garvey's blog
"For my money, if Ellis can act like a Democrat, I am waiting for the governor to act like a Democrat. You know. Fight for lower tuition, health care for all, a serious reduction in prison population with repeal of the law with a fraudulent name, "Truth in Sentencing."

7. Mike Ellis hates....
.... John Gard and his minions in the Assembly. He's been having a lot of fun the past year giving them the needle.
