GOP descends on Blue Harbor

State Republicans meet for annual convention here beginning Friday
By Bob Petrie
Sheboygan Press staff

In a blue-collar Democratic town, they’re ready to roll out the red carpet for the Republicans.

The state Republican Party is holding its annual convention at the Blue Harbor Resort and Conference Center, bringing up to 600 delegates Friday and Saturday to Sheboygan, along with the declared candidates for next year’s gubernatorial and attorney general races.

"For a lot of them, it’ll be a good chance to meet 500 to 600 delegates in the same room, strut their stuff, and get warmed up for the long (campaign) road ahead," said Rick Wiley, executive director of the state Republican Party.

About 180 rooms are reserved for Friday night and another 110 for Saturday night, said Josef Haas, Blue Harbor general manager, and it will be one of the larger conferences the hotel since opening last June.
