Latest slain Canadian soldier had 'warrior spirit 100 per cent'

The Manitoba-based soldier who is Canada's latest fatality in Afghanistan was "a committed warrior" and "a leader through and through," according to his battle group's commander.

Sgt. Jason Boyes, 32, was born in Napanee, Ont. He was a member of the 2nd Battalion, Princess Patricia's Canadian Light Infantry, based at Canadian Forces Base Shilo, and had recently arrived for his third tour in Afghanistan.

Boyes was killed by an explosive device while on foot patrol with members of the Afghan National Security Forces in southern Afghanistan on Sunday night, military officials said Monday.

Now, there's a term I don't believe I've ever heard in reference to our soldiers before.

It's part of the tiresome neocon effort to convince Canadians that we are a 'warrior" nation defined by our past military accomplishments and current prowess.

Fortunately, according to public opinion polls, they aren't succeeding in selling this crap though the Harpers and the Granatsteins and Bercusons continue to try.
