The Conservative government has promised to take steps to quell a controversy over its political appointments to a government-funded rights agency.
Foreign Affairs Minister Lawrence Cannon told reporters Thursday he will move to stabilize Montreal-based Rights and Democracy, which has been in crisis since the sudden death of president Remy Beauregard.
“Within the next couple of days, I expect to take precise action in terms of the measures that should follow,” Mr. Cannon said.
Tensions began to mount in the organization last spring over decisions to cut funding to rights groups critical of Israeli policies toward Palestinians.
