Tories question ‘good ole boy’
Jack Layton is being mocked by the Conservatives for bragging recently on a radio talk show that growing up he had a .22 calibre rifle that was for “goin’ out and hunting ducks.”

More than that, however, the mischievous Tories note that using a .22 to shoot migratory birds is illegal in most parts of Canada.

“NDP Leader Jack Layton tried to portray himself as a friend of hunters, farmers and those who enjoy the outdoors,” the Conservatives charged in an email to their supporters and MPs on Friday.

About an hour after the memo went out, Alberta Tory MP Laurie Hawn was repeating the talking points on Twitter: “Layton says he was just a good ole boy growing up huntin' ducks with his .22 rifle. Nice try Jack. Can you spell ‘blowing smoke’?”

Seems to me that the Cons don't want the issue to pass.

1. I wish our leaders would stop pretending to be
'good ole boys' and 'one of the people' and all that. It's phony as hell as people know it, especially with a statement like this.

That said, Harper is trying to change the Helena/Jaffier channel. It's eating into his poll numbers.

3. He should have said "plinking tin cans with a .22"
Even I did that.

Nonetheless, the Conservatives continue to show their deplorable tendency to divide city and country people every way they can. This is not a government that unites people, but thrives on division.

6. It's just not a big deal
They are using this as some kind of country mouse - city mouse litmus test. It's divisive. It's reverse snobbery.
