Atheist Bus Campaign is 'offensive', say complaints to ASA

The atheist bus advert: under attack for its 'offensive' message. The advertising regulator has received more than 50 complaints that an atheist ad campaign, proclaiming "There is probably no God. Now stop worrying and enjoy your life", is offensive to Christians and other religions that believe in a single God.

Stephen Green, the national director of Christian Voice, is among those who have complained to the Advertising Standards Authority, arguing that the atheist campaign broke the advertising code on the grounds of substantiation and truthfulness.

The ASA has received 57 complaints about the Atheist Bus Campaign which launched earlier this week on buses throughout England, Scotland and Wales, as well as the London underground.
The complainants claim the ad campaign is offensive to Christians and those of other monotheistic religions.

It's the nearest British equivalent to the American Christian Right organizations. They are fanatically anti-gay rights, anti-abortion, pro-making laws based on Christianity, etc.

In fact the ad not strictly atheist since it states - "There is probably no God. Now stop worrying and enjoy your life". At least the humanists have the humility to hedge there views with doubt.

If I was going to criticize the advert it would be the assumption that worrying is somehow associated with a belief in God. Most people have plenty of more mundane problems that stop them enjoying life. Nor is it the right of the religious or the irreligious to tell people how they should think or feel.
