Not really, but I am scared. Even during the darkest days of Watergate and Reagan and Iran-Contra, etc., I was never like this. This is really profoundly disturbing, the election fraud issue. What REALLy scares me is the almost total domination of the corporate media and the "sheeple-ness" of the American people (partially because of media censorship). Is anyone else scared also ? Or is it just worrywart me ?

And when you start to know what's happening, scared morphs into terrifying.

8. In the words of my favorite politician (the one who saved the world):
Edited on Thu Jan-06-05 12:17 AM by FreepFryer
"We shall not flag or fail. We shall go on to the end. We shall fight on the beaches, we shall fight on the landing grounds, we shall fight in the fields, and in the streets, we shall fight in the hills: we shall never surrender."

"Let us therefore brace ourselves to our duty, and so bear ourselves, that if the British Empire and its Commonwealth last for a thousand years, men will still say, 'This was their finest hour.'" (London, England, June 18, 1940, on the cusp of an expected, overwhelming Nazi invasion)

This is our finest hour, people, at least until an hour from now. We're going to turn back the Nazi invasion that is choking our national culture, and alienating American from American.

Believe in yourself! That's Where Democracy Starts!

22. No Fair, Quoting Winnie
and my favorite speech too!

If you're going to compare ANY current American politician to Winston Churchill, holding his country together during the equivalent of a 9-11 tragedy every couple of weeks (figured statistically, counting Blitz casualties in '41) YOU'RE NOT GOING TO GET ANYWHERE!

Bush's appeal is "a question wrapped in a riddle inside an enigma."

They don't make 'em like Winnie anymore, mate.

14. I was a little on selection day
I think what is frightening to some is that if the election was stolen, then we have had a coup. I think Al Franken is the only one that I have heard say the "c" word on the day after the selection. I have not heard anyone use this word again or since. But it is the logical conclusion. It is very hard for most people to wrap their minds around this concept.
Actually, the "c" word happened in 2000. It had me shaking to the bone for a couple of days. I still shake when I hear about the doings of this administration. But, I am resolved to oppose them. I take comfort from this board and little glimmers of hope here and there.

pendulumn. that is what we do. was driving with my boys today. 7 and 9. talking about something, and i start laughing, oh boys i say, what a time you come into. i was a teenager in the 70's and 80's in calif. now that was a fun time. a really really free and fun time. you on the other hand, puritan time, oh lordy what a time for you

i know, it was two different cars with two different religious bumperstickers.

look, we are in a time of awakening. really truly. we could have gone one way after 9/11 but we went the other. people are a fearful lot. all these things they are grabbing onto cause they are so afraid

i am not afraid. i dont need to buy into this stuff

on edit: huggies, lol lol

regardless of the outcome, i am not afraid.

the same fear that would take the heart of me.
A day may come when the courage of America fails…. When we forsake our friends and break all bonds of fellowship.
But it is not this day.
An hour of blackboxes and shattered shields when the age of Men comes crashing down.
But it is not this day.

This day we fight!

By all that you hold dear on this good earth I bid you stand, people of the West!

26. ((((((((((BIG HUG!!))))))))) You're in good company, Steve....
Those of us who can't go to D.C. right now, and are hanging on by our fingernails here at home, waiting for reports and news to come tomorrow...we're all pretty nervous and scared.

I'm scared because I saw those same things you saw: Assassination of one of the greatest president we've ever had, the assassinations of Bobby and Martin, the Vietnam war & protests, the 1968 Convention, 4 student protesters shot in Ohio at Kent State, Watergate, the Watts riots, Iran-Contra, the impeachment of a sitting president over a blow job (a non-military coup), and the destruction of our economic system, our environment, our electoral system...all at the hands of a psycopath in the president's chair....

And I know all too well what our options are if working within the system fails. Scared? Hell yes I'm scared! But my mind is clear right now on where I am with it all. My ancestors fought and died for this country and our right to have a Democracy...and I'm sure as hell not going to allow them to have fought in vain.

:grouphug: We'll all stick together! :grouphug:

start up a decent honest news network to broadcast the truth, the whole truth and nothing but the truth. Then, my fear would totally go away. I am still quite hopeful. But to be honest, if no Senator dares to stand up tomorrow, I think I will start looking for my teddy bear and a few Xanax. BUT...after I get down with Xanax and hugging my teddy bear, I will fight like hell in every way possible to regain my country. I am a fighter, despite my fear. If the Repugs win fair and square, I have to accept that and try again. But, this is dictatorship and I refuse to live in a dictatorship.

30. I know the feeling. I think it comes from confronting someone who
may be quite nuts. Bush has kept the country under his thumb through fear and intimidation. So the possibility of a real confrontation with him is like confronting the abusive spouse. A little unnerving. But I'd be truly scared if no one were doing anything. As it is, I'm verging on excited. We've got a long road ahead, but the lid's off this thing, the boogie man is about to be exposed, and there are sharp people around who are ready to help. It's not just us - but it's really good there is an "us!" :toast:

34. Yes in fact you should be scared. I lived in Albania, the Ivory
Coast and now Mexico. I watched the Balkans explode, West Africa explode (thank God Mexico seems to be on a different path so far). Milosovich (sp?) first took over the media and the financial system very quietly and then played on differences between ethnic groups to increase his power. How do you think that he gained such power? In Belgrade the media played nothing but propaganda 24/7. Mainly old war footage of atrocities from WWII and when it wasn't racist. In Albania, I watched Sali Berisha change from a lofty democratic-minded elected president to a corrupt ineffective president and saw the change in media from open to propaganda. My Albanian friends never watched TV. In the Ivory Coast, I lived through multiple uprisings of waves of people dying to take over the state run (and only) television station in order to protect their election in the fact of a dictator. Yes it is important and scary that the media is controlled by a small group of what seem to be ultra conservatives or should we say the ultra power hungry. Yes this election is really that important and yes you have a right to be scared. What none of us have is a right to ignore.

35. I am scared, but I'm not afraid.
I see what is happening to my country with dread and loathing, but I know that we will win in the end. Trite as it sounds, good always eventually triumphs over evil.

I think we are facing a greater threat than we have ever faced as a nation, at least since 1860. The very foundations of our republic are under attack, and the worst of it is that the attackers are people who say, and some may truly believe, they are trying to protect the nation. Most, however, have no loyalty above their loyalty to their profits, or their prophets, depending on which faction you are talking about.

But we don't have such short memories as they think we do. No matter what damage they may do while holding power, we will remember the ideals that America was founded on -- the rule of law, the rights of citizens, the responsibilities of elected officials.

I'm scared when I contemplate what damage they are doing, but I am not afraid of them.

that's why we're here. If we weren't we'd all be out at the bar or movies or somewhere besides sitting in front of computer screens talkin' to each other.

But better scared than asleep or in a trance like most Americans are.

Maybe with the support we give each other we can somehow figure out how to fix this mess.

39. Here's a warm hug anyway Steve, and I do have a fear that is always
present but I try to deal with it proactively. I cannot stop and think about it too long. I also have two teenage sons that I refuse to allow to be fodder for the Sociopath and his corporate wars.

Like yourself I've been through Watergate etc, and although I knew that government could be corrupt, I never thought it could be truly evil. Until now (last 3 years). 9/11 was my wake-up call, and with all the research that I've done since has convinced me that the Executive Branch is filled to the brim with fascist lunatics. Tomorrow the election will not be overturned(yes there will be a fight), and the real challenge will begin. I have my mantra below to keep the screaming mimis at bay.

I refuse to give in to them. I refuse them to allow them to control my life. I refuse them, period.

>> "sheeple-ness" of the American people (partially because of media censorship)<< - I'sd say, mainly because of peoples' abject dependendence on the mass media in the first place.

Listening to the BBC World Service on shortwave on 9/11 I heard a woman giving her impressions by phone say this: "I could see what what was happening in downtown Manhattan, from my balcony here in midtown Manhattan, with my own eyes. But I had to go inside and switch on the TV to make sure it was for real."
