Have you called your local schools?
Just a quick note before I head off to ground zero.

I just called the schools where my kids are and let them know of the Honorable Mr. Conyers' civics lesson about to be held at 1:00

It is important that young minds observe this.

1. I'm taping this for my kids
I know the school won't show it (both of my kids are in elementary...would require too much explanation). My kids get government lessons at home.

2. Our schools are closed today -- guess it is CSPAN at 1:00 and
not Cartoon Network!

3. My 12-year-old plans on spreading the word to his civics teacher & friends
He's very good at it, too. ;) They'll be watching.

4. Just emailed my son's school
and sent to several staff members in the hope that one sees it in the next hour and a half.

Here's my email FWIW:

Hello Jim and Staff,

You may be aware that both Houses of Congress meet today at 1:00pm PST to confirm the electoral college votes for US President. It will be aired on C-Span. Unlike past meetings, this will be only the 2nd time (the 1st in 1877) that both a Representative and Senator will challenge the vote, specifically Ohio. I'm including a link below to an AP story this morning:

http://story.news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=story2&u=/ap/20050106/ap_on_go_co/electoral_vote

From my perspective, this is a MUST SEE event that our students should be allowed to watch, no matter what class they happen to be in a the time, even if only in part. If this is an unworkable situation, maybe you will consider recording it for later viewing. This is an event that may never again be seen in our lifetime. I hope that you will seriously consider it.

Thank you,

5. I have a snow day!
I woke up and heard Senator Dayton talking about the importance of following up on Ohio! I knew it was true!

6. I emailed the local HS history teachers
I hope they get the e-mail in time to watch.
