I'm not sure I can handle tomorrow
I'm trying to be cheerful by focusing on things I can do to show my displeasure at the election fraud by wearing black with an orange armband and not spending any money. I trying to focus on the fact that I will get engaged next week and my future, but I'm scared. I'm scared for my future and starting a new life. I'm worried that I won't be able to go to work tomorrow and smile. When will we take America back from those that have stolen it? What if we can't? What if our country is destroyed beyond recognition? I'm trying to be positive, but I'm not sure I can. My hopelessness overcomes my positive thoughts about our victories. Those victories seem so small. Am I the only one that feels this way?

1. you are definitely not alone
Many of us feel this way. And until we have free and fair elections in this country, with absolute transparency about the electoral process, we will continue to feel this way.

15. He's pretty much already done that.
However, since he "doesn't have to worry about being elected again", I'm sure what he has in store for us over the next 4 years will make his "first term" look like a day at the beach. I won't be watching his Coronation tomorrow.

6. I share your feelings
Edited on Wed Jan-19-05 12:10 PM by LiberalEsto
I desperately wish I could go hibernate for the next 4 years. I've lived through the Vietnam war era, Nixon, Ford, B*sh 1 and 2. I've marched and protested and campaigned and donated money and gone door-to-door and worked at the polls and made phone calls and much much more.

Everything seems futile. It's nice that Kerry and Boxer stood up today, but I'm so afraid they will get the Wellstone treatment eventually.

My parents came here from Estonia for freedom, after World War 2 and displaced person camps. It would be a bitter irony if I end up fleeing to Estonia for freedom and to protect my daughters from being drafted.

8. Exactly
Boxer and Kerry were right to stand for their principles, but what good does it do in the long run? MSM will just spin it as them being sore losers.

11. I get the feeling sometimes...
Edited on Wed Jan-19-05 12:31 PM by Independent_Liberal
I know what you're talking about. I kind of get scared sometimes. But, I think by acting now we're doing the best thing we can do. I think we've achieved a lot in the past few months. Start small, let it expand to new proportions. But always stay on the offense and be prepared.

And like your username says, "NGU." Never Give Up

17. since I can't be in DC
I am handling the inaugural with a policy of benign neglect. I am neglecting it. I am going to pretend it isn't there. Maybe I will go to a movie. Maybe I will rent all of John Sayles and Michael Moore's movies and watch them all day.

Maybe I will jump off a large bridge. Nah, I don't want to do that.

I probably will just storm around the house ranting and raving like I always do. I would put my Kerry lawn sign up but the ground froze.

I guess I might hang out here a lot.

18. Tomorrow we all should be proud...
not because we have not won, and * Co got away with their crimes. Instead we should all be proud to know the truth, even though it is not valuable to the masses, we know the truth we know what is reality.

Just because people don't agree with our position doesn't mean we are wrong. While all our attention has been spent trying to understand what has happened, many other have been trying to hide what has happened, and they failed in many ways. Thanks to the dedicated few, who showed great leadership through their individual commitment to figuring this out, all is not lost.

It is better that our struggle is hard, it is better that we fail before we succeed, and in the end all of us who are committed to finding the factual truth will appreciate what we have earned more then if the entire process was easy.

Tomorrow know that it's not you that is the puppet!

19. suggestion
stop trying to cover up your anger and frustration with a false sense of optimism.

therapists agree it is better to "vent" anger than to cover it up.

Here's what I'd do.

Put a picture of Bush on your dartboard. Spend a few hours playing darts.

Get out your old tennis racket and an old pillow. Pretend the pillow is Bush, Rove, or whoever.... Go at it.

Try a primal scream or two.

vent that anger, don't suppress it.

20. You don't really need to smile, just keep focused!
Edited on Wed Jan-19-05 02:17 PM by demodonkey
NGU, and everybody, we need to take tomorrow to be proud of what we have done, and focus on where we need to go... no need to smile and "get over it", or "heal", or "come together", just FOCUS. We have a right to be pissed, and we have NOTHING to apologize for, we don't need to "get along" with the so-called majority (which I am convinced WE are, really, in light of another stolen election!) we need to proudly stand up for who and what we are.

I hope for all our sakes that everybody on here tries to do SOMETHING tomorrow to make a difference, whether it's participate in Not One Damn Dime Day, or wear orange, make a sign and stand in front of City Hall for an hour, or just talk to one person about the 2004 election civil rights violations and voting problems...

And your username is right, NGU.

Never Give Up.

22. Butch up folks!
First of all, everything goes in cycles. People will tire of these assholes in government, and we'll get our power back.
No need to jump off of bridges.

Secondly, feeling sorry for ourselves will only lead to inaction and depression.
Get out and do something.
If you ACT defeated, you WILL BE defeated.
Defeatism is an attitude and its catching on quick I'm afraid.

23. the only problem with the "cycle theory" is
that it doesn't account for stolen elections

in reality, we just experienced a shift back to the democrats from the last 4 years of lies and killing.

but the stolen election prevented the cycle from happening.

I dont think they could pull off a massive cheat.
Clinton won by easy margins, we can do it again.
Hell if Clinton had run, he would have won outright!

28. Depression is anathema
Edited on Wed Jan-19-05 10:21 PM by ailsagirl
and it must be fought at all costs. It's proven that depression suppresses the immune system... and we don't need that.

Take breaks from the political situation-- read, exercise, see friends, etc.-- we all need a break once in awhile-- better yet, we need balance.

I have a friend who is very concerned about what's happening in this country but she does not let it impinge upon her day-to-day life. She deliberately seeks out activities that she enjoys and, while she keeps up with what is happening politically, she refuses to let herself be swallowed up by it.

I admire that and am working to emulate her.

For what it's worth.

25. I understand how you feel.
Just remember the following things.

1) Bush can only get away with so much. I don't think many people here have noticed this, but Congress is giving Bush a hard time on some key issues. That's because as awareness for a subject is being raised, Americans are making it clear that they don't support all of W's policies (even if they voted for him).

2) Didn't the US survive worse when we went through the Reagan years? A pro-nuclear freak he was! Unlike Bushy, he actually got his way if I remember things correctly.

If you live life the best way you can, you might find that you don't need a messiah to save you from the burning Bush. It's always been up to the American people to save themselves. It was never up to a messiah named Kerry. What isn't going to kill us is going to make us stronger (and probably tougher activists for some of us. lol).

Thanks for being so honest about what's going on with you. I understand and share many of your feelings. You're definitely not alone.

I have felt so devastated lately about the state of this country and what Bush has done.

Tomorrow will be very difficult.

I'm having a very hard time right now.

I have two preschool-aged girls and I'm wondering what kind of world I've brought them into. They're spirited, amazing little girls. I know that remaining positive is in their best interests. However, it's very hard right now. Iraq is crumbling. Iran is looming. How far will the neocons go? It's very distressing.

I grapple with wanting to leave the country, actually. That makes me sad. It makes me feel unpatriotic and like a quitter. However, it's what I feel right now.

I'm usually a very positive, upbeat person--but, like you, I feel a bit hopeless right now.

Maybe sometimes it's just ok to wallow in sadness. Maybe it's our minds' way of grieving the loss of the election, what might have been and the current state of affairs. Maybe feeling the sadness is a holding pattern which is ok to stay in for a while--before we are ready to fight.
