the fraud was not comitted by the voters. Therefore, ELECTION fraud, not VOTER fraud.

We get it already. As for me, I prefer (and am using) the phrase "election theft" instead of "election fraud". They didn't "trick" us out of the election, they stole it from us outright.

10. Stand your ground Faye
It matters. Framing MATTERS.

The (newest) one that's bugging me is "privatizing" SS. A little better than "personal accounts", but the best way to say it is "corporatizing Social Security."

11. Since the person "asking" is a 1,000+ DU poster, maybe they're ...
... pulling your leg. Maybe, from now on, every time I see someone use the phrase "election fraud" on DU or anywhere else in my universe, I need to jump on DU to say that, no, we need to use the phrase "election theft". My motives -- clarity of language -- would be the same as yours, and I could also be as passionate about my point because I think "election fraud" is too timid a phrase and is not what happened -- the election was stolen.

And then despite starting dozens of threads on this same topic over a month, I could continue to start new threads every time someone used the phrase "election fraud" again, anywhere in my universe. Boy, you and I could keep a running battle going on this and while we might clear up the language a bit and be assured that everyone knew where we stood on this issue, we might also chase a few DUers away. That wouldn't be either of our intentions, I would expect.

I know and understand your point, Faye, and I wonder if "DenverDem" does also and was just pulling your leg. In either case, I am reminded of your point everytime I see you post on any topic (because it's your signature line) and I appreciate your point. If you feel you need to keep making it over and over and over and over again, rock and roll. I won't be tempted to respond by trying to get everyone to use the truly correct term (in my mindset) -- "election theft" -- on the DU forum at every opportunity.

I appreciate you, Faye, and just wanted to give you a little friendly feedback. We're all in the same foxhole and I'm not in favor of turning our weapons on each other. Would love to hear back from "DenverDem" in case I confused a genuine desire to hear more on this topic again for gentle sarcasm. Peace.

19. Here's what i wrote them
Edited on Fri Feb-04-05 02:05 PM by Faye
let's see if they write back:

(Subject line: your page on cafepress - Re: Voter fraud)

Hi - I saw your sticker that says "voter fraud is not a mandate. george bush is not my president."

I am sure you are educated on the issues of what happened this past election. I am not sure if you read or participate on the forums on Democratic Underground, but my name on there is Faye (that is my real name by the way).

I am writing you because I, along with many others who involved in fighting election fraud, are trying to get everyone else concerned with it to start using the correct general broad term - ELECTION FRAUD, as opposed to 'voter fraud'. While there are a small number of cases where the voter actually committed the fraud, using it as the BROAD, GENERAL term can be very misleading to those who are not aware of the issue but may take an interest if approched properly. The ELECTION was fraudulent, not the voters.

Anyway, I have a few threads posted on DU forums that I am asking you to read - and to reconsider the use of 'voter fraud' on your bumper sticker on cafepress. Of course I do not excpect you to listen to little old me, but please at least consider what I am saying to you. Please use ELECTION FRAUD as opposed to 'voter fraud'. Here are links to the threads i'd like you to see:

http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_topic&forum=203&topic_id=309442

I hope you are not offended by this, I have good intentions. Please read the threads above and get back to me with your opinion.

And hey, if you change your bumper sticker to say "election fraud", I vow to buy at least two and encourage others to buy it as well.

Hope to hear back from you soon :)

Thanks Faye,

Good point. When I designed the stickers and shirts, I
thought the phrase sounded wrong too, but I looked it
up in various places and found that it was essentially
correct. But I do like your version better. I will
change my files as soon as I get a chance and let you
know.

Not offended at all, thanks for letting me know.

Once it is changed, i'm going to buy one or two and ask others to buy some as well. it really is a great sticker once that phrase is changed.

it not only says we won't tolerate election fraud, but that * is NOT our president.

24.  good feedback to designer...
who recognised that words may be essentially correct usage, but still confusing. And THAT'S what matters when you're talking about slogans and messages--they need to be crystal clear (unless TRYING to be cryptic or ambiguous, which this is not). I have recently been flummoxed by the interplay of the terms "vote fraud" and voter fraud" --by a writer who meant well (background of this not important), who used "vote fraud" when they DID mean "voter fraud." Threw the whole article off.
Faye is right about this. "Framing Matters," as was said above.

and i'm not even saying vote fraud or voter fraud is "wrong" or "doesn't exist" and shouldn't be used when referring to the individual issue, it's just not the proper term that covers the broad scheme and including the root word "vote" can be misinterpreted.

30. Perhaps
But election fraud won't either.

There has to be a concept that will get people's attention.

I'm not thrilled with the word coup which is why I went to Wikipedia. The term for what Bush did is self-coup. But that is a mouthful and not readily understandable.

Fraud is a legal concept that people think should be resoved in court. It suggests that the courts can provide a remedy for this. They can't.

We need a concept that is extra-legal.

40. Computer generated election coup?
After reading Wikipedia again, in the discussion section regarding the word coup, someone made the comment that coup does not refer to consolidation of power via the election process.

Maybe it is time that it should.

Maybe we need to coin a new term -- election coup -- to indicate that it can.

Ideas anyone?

I just don't like the word fraud or theft because they have legal conotations; they sound like problems for which it is the province of the courts to handle. I like a term that sounds beyond what the legal process can cope with.

Good night, Faye. Sweet dreams of the smirking chimp finding enough rope to hang himself. No matter where he goes, there he is. And it doesn't matter how many people they lock out of Duh-bya's "public events", the truth is still waiting for him, outside in the dark. And it looks and sounds a lot like us.

Election theft: it should be a hangable offense. As in "hang him out to dry, in the hot Crawford sun".
