Rocking the voting machines Blast college media!

I've been noticing several college newspapers paying attention to the FraWd issue. Perhaps we should turn to academia for the beginning momentum of our revolution.
Is someone up to creating a college newspaper media blaster?
Universities protests were much of what put the Vietnam war out of business.

Rocking the voting machines

Johnson County voters may cast ballots on touch screens, and election officials may tabulate results via Internet as early as the fall elections.

Those are some of the options vendors offered the Johnson County Board of Supervisors at a Monday sales show, which will continue through today at the county fairgrounds. Disability-friendly machines and high-speed tabulation devices were some of the other options supervisors considered.

"We absolutely need to have new equipment," said Sally Stutsman, the chairwoman of the supervisors. "The current machines are old enough that it is hard to get replacement parts."

The supervisors are planning to replace the current 21-year-old machines before September, in time for upcoming School Board and City Council elections.

(snip)
" must be a top priority; it should be a national requirement," he said.
Paper is the most reliable source in the case of equipment failure or voting irregularities, he said.

5. YES and
We are trying to work out a plan to involve the colleges in the VR campaign too. It will involve getting the universities to divest from the voting machine companies. We need folks at every major university to get involved. If you are near a university, now is the time to make contact with Democratic and or grassroots organizations involved on campus. But a buzz in their ear about the VR campaign and tell them the specifics will be coming. You can put them in touch with me if you want. This is big.

10. What is going on with VR anyway?
Aren't we supposed to be launching the massive boycott. Isn't the 60 days up?
Are we giving the e-voting companies slack or was it just an idle threat? Everytime I go to the VR site there is no news about the boycott - successes failures whatever, what's up with that? I can't find a list of individuals or companies that have divested. It's a bit dissappointing.

16. patience
things don't always happen on the timeline we expect.

it is coming.

if you knew how hard these people are working on this, and how few people are doing it, and how much time they are putting into it with no pay, and how many other equally important things they are working on at the same time... you get the point.

it is coming. very soon.

I posted the same question at the Brad Blog and got an immediate response from Brad saying that news regarding the divestiture is coming soon.

I'm glad the desire to hit them where it hurts is still burning.

17. ATTN: Provide the email addresses, and I will build you a college blaster
Wilms was working on this for the college radio stations. He was going to get a group to harvest the emails. This was a couple of weeks ago when Brad first launched the Brad Show (Wilms asked Brad, and he said he liked the idea.)

I've got several other major election-related projects going on right now, so if it is going to happen, others will have to take the lead and collect the data and send it to me. Once I have a list of email addresses, I will be glad to set it all up and host it.

I need the email addresses sent to me in the following format:

email1@host.com,email2@host.com,etc.

I've been planning to expand the blasters I have available for quite some time; but new, more pressing problems keep arising. Another one that has been kicked around for a while is a foreign media blaster. keepthemhonest is working on that as of 4-18.

Having these specialized blasters like this would greatly leverage your efforts in sending out emails. You can still send out personalized emails. But with just a little copying and pasting, and a few clicks, you would be able to send out many more emails quickly. (In April, over 70k individual emails were sent out using the blasters.)

So, if y'all would like these specialized blasters (or others) available, PM these two people, get together and collect the email addresses, etc. and then PM me with the data.

Of course, if you have any questions, post them here or PM me if you prefer.

41. V. worth doing
A friend just sent me an impressive paper written by his son for his highschool history class, and it's all about the 2004 irregularities!

Could we enlist college students to actually help create the college media blaster?

43. Here's what I sent to friend w/a college kid; maybe you can use
A thread at DU has discussed creating a college media blaster, which I think would be very worthwhile, but efforts seem to have stalled out, at least temporarily.

(Media blaster = a list of e-mail addresses for editors or other appropriate contact persons at media outlets--in this case, college media. The hardest part is just tracking down and compiling the list of eprsons/e-mail addresses. Best to have addresses for specific individuals, rather than just general addresses for the outlet.)

Does _________ have any acquaintances who might be interested in helping? Or perhaps could forward this to others who might be interested?

See http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_mesg&forum=203&topic_id=366142&mesg_id=366142 and click on “View All” for more complete details.

Thanks!
