BRAD BLOG: Koehler's Latest Column Spiked! TAKE ACTION!
Edited on Thu May-05-05 03:14 AM by tommcintyre

<SNIP>
Koehler once again hits a home-run with this week's column in response to Wycliff's. Or at least he would have had the Masters of Tribune Media Services not killed the article for the first time in Koehler's career!...

As Koehler explained to The BRAD BLOG this evening, not only is this the first time that he's had a column spiked by the higher-ups at TMS, it's the first time they've even bothered to have one of his columns "shown around" to determine it's appropriateness before it went out!

Koehler took pains to point out that his managing editor, Mary Elson, has been extremely supportive of his work on both his latest and past columns and was, infact, the one who gave him the okay to attend the conference in Nashville in the first place. It was that conference which apparently opened his eyes to the crime against democracy which seems to have occured last November. Actually examining the evidence will do that to a fellow.

The unprecedented decision to spike his piece, it seems, came not from Elson, but from higher up on the TMS food chain late this afternoon, just hours before deadline.

The complete column will appear on Koehler's site soon:

Tribune Syndicate Spikes Robert Koehler's Latest Column!
Mainstream Journo Penning Election Reform Column Has Article Rejected for First Time in Career!

What began innocently enough with a watershed article several weeks ago by Tribune Media Service's Robert Koehler on the need for Election Reform and an investigation into the results of Election 2004, has now erupted into a full-fledged firestorm resulting Wednesday afternoon in the unprecedented rejection of Koehler's latest column by the higher-ups at TMS where Koehler is both a columnist and editor!

2. My letter this morning
Thanks for posting this Tom! I cc'd Dold, O'Shea, Wycliff and bcc'd Koehler.

Dear Ms. Lipinski,

I am bitterly disappointed to learn that the Tribune is refusing to publish Bob Koehler's articles regarding election fraud.

Your refusal to allow information regarding election fraud to reach the general public will not make the facts disappear. I can't figure out what advantage it is for you personally, or the Tribune as a mainstream media source to deny the fact that our election system is badly flawed and does not allow "we the people" to have our voices heard in choosing the leaders of our country.

I hope you will reconsider allowing people to read his articles and decide for themselves.

"What is lost when all the news arteries are clogged with muck is a flow of information to the public about what their government is actually doing from day to day -- as well as information about what real choices they have to shape the nation's future. Most news organizations simply are not trying hard enough to offer political news that is meaningful to people." - Ellen Hume

Sincerely,
Jen

3. Every time the Trib makes another bad decision, we have to respond.
And I think the color of the season is "sarcasm". I'll post my follow-up letter later today.

Now it's time to go be a farmer for at least a little while.

8. Agreed. This continued "activity" only helps to "fuel the fire"
The more articles that are written (by Brad and otherwise), the more the awareness level increases that something was very "wrong" with the election.

Our emails to the media show them that people DO care about this.

Go get 'em!

4. I will also send my comments in. But first, I would like to also point out
that Amaryllis posted a great investigative journalistic piece I would like to read in whole, called Votescam.

It is probably what many of you already read, but as I have been absent from DU a lot recently, I did not know.....

http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=203x365999

snip from 1 "The Premise" ...and this is just the beginning of 300 some pages.

• For almost three decades the American vote has been subject to government-sponsored electronic theft.

• The vote has been stolen from you by a cartel of federal "national security" bureaucrats, who include higher-ups in the Central Intelligence Agency, political party leaders, Congressmen, co-opted journalists — and the owners and managers of the major Establishment news media, who have decided in concert that how America's votes are counted, by whom they are counted and how the results are verified and delivered to the public is, as one of them put it, "Not a proper area of inquiry."

• By means of an unofficial private corporation named News Election Service (NES), the Establishment press has actual physical control of the counting and dissemination of the vote, and it refuses to let the public know how it is done.

http://www.constitution.org/vote/votescam__.htm

I thank Amaryllis for posting it!

:hi:

Votescam, but people aren't picking up on it. Keep thinking if I just got the right headline...maybe I should try it again? Ideas on attention grabbing header? Thought these would do it, but didn't.

5. my email to wycliff
dear mr wycliffe,
whatever you may or may not think about the integrity of the balloting in ohio, (and new mexico, and pennsylvania, and...) the voters are not buying it. suspicion is growing daily throughout the populace. even some people who have never been on the internets are beginning to smell a rat. watch this clip from the jay leno show
(linked to bright eyes video)
and listen to the crowd at the mention of " which voter fraud must be concealed"
perhaps the tribune, and the rest of the corporate controlled media, should have their first amendment protection rescinded if they can not report on a story as important to the electorate at the integrity and transparency of a federal election. it is one thing to fail to report that the election may have been stolen, it is another to fail to report even that there are questions being asked. when in the history of this country have citizens ever reached into their own pockets to pay the costs of counting the votes? was it mentioned in your paper that the phony recount of the ohio ballots, such that it was, was funded by contributions, large and small, from ordinary citizens? a true guardian of our democracy would have put such an outrage on the front page.
shame on you chicago tribune.

6. Please see my post (#10): Caveat Emptor re Chic Trib and Koehler, at
http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=203x366209

I think I know why the Chic Trib is playing this coy game--creating a "buzz" about election fraud, but providing the public with few facts and no investigation. It has to do with the probable hidden agenda of the phony Baker/Carter "election reform commission"--federalizing elections under Bush Cartel control. A "buzz" is useful. Facts are not.

9. Here's my letter:
Dear Mr. Wycliff,

It is unconscionable that you are refusing to run Mr. Koehler’s articles on the election. It is more unconscionable that you ran an extremely dismissive rebuttal to his article without even publishing his article so readers could see exactly what it was you are dismissing. How can you call yourself a serious journalist when you don’t even run the article you are dismissing? This is insulting both to Mr.Koehler and to your readers.

Just exactly what is it you are afraid of? Is it true, as so many have said, that there is a lockdown on the media discussing this topic? Or is this just a conspiracy theory? If it’s just a conspiracy theory, then why not print Mr. Koehler’s articles and let your readers make up their own minds? Or, if you aren’t comfortable doing this, why not write another dismissive rebuttal to accompany Mr. Koehler’s articles, and then print them along with your rebuttal?

You wonder why your ratings are falling and why more and more readers are turning to the internet for news? It is only on the internet that we can find real news. Apparently a 102 page report issued by the Minority House Judiciary Committee on all the irregularities that occurred in Ohio in the 2004 election, and the fact that for the second time in the history of this country a state’s electors were challenged on Jan. 6, was not cause enough for serious investigation on the part of the media. Do you know what the battle cry is on the internet? “We ARE the media, because the media is no longer doing their job.”

If you don’t care about serving your readers and being true to old fashioned journalistic ideals, which appear to have died, consider what printing these articles would do for your circulation. Did you know that Keith Olbermann of MSNBC covered the “irregularities” of the 2004 election on his nightly program “Countdown” every night from Nov. 7 through Jan. 6? He was one of the few mainstream media outlets who gave this serious coverage, and his ratings soared. He received volumes of email, the vast majority supportive. He said he had NEVER covered a story that had generated this much response, or this much positive response. Perhaps if you started publishing real journalism, such as Mr. Koehler’s articles, you could increase your circulation.

I look forward to your reply.

25. Silent Scream of Numbers is what prompted me to take this action
I began the idea of the Orange Postcard campaign (please send to congress and media) after reading Koehler's Silent Scream article. He has another one out now too http://www.commondreams.org/views05/0505-32.htm Also was inspired in general by Babara Boxer staement concerning BushInc.'s insane and dangerous budget proposals.
Then I was wondering when, and I heard about the June 9th Verified Voting Lobby Day in WDC. This morning I took the plunge and decided to try writing a petiton to promote it also.

I love Velvet Revolution also
http://velvetrevolution.us / they have petitions, the latest concerns the Electoral Assistance Commission- which many folks don't seem to have much faith in.
Verified voting Lobby Day on June 9th in Washington DC here is the beginning of the Verified Voting Lobby Day Petion

"We the undersigned, endorse the following petition:
Support Verified Voting / Call for investigations
Target: Henry Waxman Committee on Govenrment Reform Minority Office
Petiton to support Verified Voting Lobby Day on June 9th,the Rush Holt Bill HR-550, and call for meaningful investigations of election fraud, in order to enable meaningful reform. ..... " http://www.thepetitionsite.com/takeaction/907402825?ltl...
see http://www.verifiedvoting.org / for more info.
I read Robert koehler's The Silent Scream of Numbers and felt the need to do something.
http://www.commonwonders.com/archives/col290.htm So I am also promoting an orange or (whatever) postcard campaign also to support this June 9th action.
I have some more info and links on my blog at jarnocan.blogspot.com
I also hope folks will send orange and/or post cards with messages calling for Verified voting, election fraud investigations and reform. Thanks!
I will also follow this thread and take actions reccommended. I also write Mr. Koehler, but I am sure he is very busy. jarnocan.blogspot.com
